National Mechanics has the best crab cake sandwich in the world. That may be an exaggeration, but I freaking doubt it. The atmosphere is cool and calm. It has a former church/factory/venue feel to it which is really my style. It's not too bright which fits my vampiric-during-lunch nature. Since it's a bar, you can also get Shirley Temples at lunch if you choose to remain non-alcoholic at that time. Bathrooms are a bit squirrelly and service can be slow at times.

More about the trip out of town to get here and the atmosphere of the place than the food. I have had better BBQ in Austin see reviews. But this place does have real character and is worth checking out. Oh it is bring your own on the alcohol... dry county.

I've been there three or four times in the last three months -- once with just my wife, once with just my 4-yr old, and last night with my wife and three kids. Yes, it's strange to walk into a bar with kids, but we go there for the food, the unpretentious everything, and the friendly people. We love the place and will definitely be back. A great mix of people, and although we're usually the only ones with kids there, we never feel unwelcome. In fact, the time I took my 4-yr old there, the owner opened the place early just so we wouldn't have to wait outside, then gave us a free appetizer because my son was really hungry. Very, very friendly people. The food is excellent. I've had Ethiopian around the country, and while it's not "out of this world", I believe you can taste attitude in your food: if the food's being made by someone that doesn't really care about it or isn't happy with what they're doing, that will show up in the taste; if they love and care about their food and place, you can taste it. Club W is in the latter camp. Last night we had: two veggie all-you-can eats, two meat specials, heaps and heaps of bread, two beers, one honey wine, one cranberry juice, two orange juices, and two Shirley Temples (7-up with cherry juice), and the bill was $64. We all rolled out of the place. Our kids love eating with their hands, and we're very happy to take them to a friendly place that serves good, healthy food at reasonable prices and in an unpretentious environment. That, and I can get Lagunitas and Guiness on tap -- great accompaniments for the spicy chicken and lentils. My family -- especially the kids -- is a big fan of Club W
