The crowd here is awesome. Everyone is there just to have a good time. The bouncers were nice when we went last Sat night. My only issue is that I don't like mashups - for example, when I hear the instrumental intro to AC/DC's 'You Shook Me All Night Long', I want to be able to sing along and dance to that song, not to Madonna verses! Don't get me wrong, Madonna is great too, but I like them better as two songs, not one!

On another yet aimless Thu night, 3 girlfriends and I decided to hit up Meatpacking on a spur of the moment impulse. On our arrival, the venue we had planned to go to was unexpectedly closed. Blindsided and with no back up plans our main concern was to escape the 10 degree weather into the next closet venue. So, Cielo it was. The line seemed to be short enough with only 6 or less ahead of us but was at a stand still for the most part. Taking a look at the line up of people outside, we were under the impression of an older, more mature club crowd. I squeezed my way through the front and leaned over for the bouncers attention to get some feedback. After exchanging a few laughs and conversation, he got us comped personally by the owner of the venue and we were gold. You can never go wrong with having dodged a wait in below freezing temperature and a $30 cover. As we entered the main area, shoulder space was sparse but the vibes of the crowd were cool. The party was kept lively with lighting and smoke effects projecting through the mass crowd of dancing people to the music by who I overheard on DJ set was Bart B More and Treasure Fingers. Usually, not my choice of scene but I didn't mind it. The bars and coat check were packed but the wait was nothing serious enough to complain about. The bathrooms on the other hand were frequently used and were strictly manned by an overbearing restroom attendant. Though this was a slight damper, all in all, the pros outnumbered the cons. Oh and most importantly, did I mention there is an outside section towards the of the back area of the venue designated for smokers? That's an automatic A+ in my book.

Like the stars say WOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOOOOOO! ! ! This is a TRUE underground spot! The DJ's are AMAZING. The beers are cheap! The SCENE unrealistic- which is a cool thing (you can find anybody here). I've seen some awesome acts here and attended some great parties at this venue. The one that sticks out of my mind this year was the party with Questlove (the drummer from the Roots) he dj'ed the entire night (until the lights came on, heckkkkkk yeahhhhhh) AMAZING! MJQ, is definitely the place to have a great time. YOU will surely break a sweat on the dance floor and meet some wonderful people. MJQ, the place to BE!
