This is 2 stars because the description for 2 stars is exactly how I would review this place: "Meh. I've experienced better." First, the cover charge for this place was $25. OK, I guess it's my fault for not looking into this earlier, but seriously? If I had a really good time at this place, then the $25 would be justifiable. But looking back, I'm not too happy about paying that amount for the cover fee. Anyways, the party was A-OK in the beginning. As more people came in, I was hoping that the party would only get better and better. I would say Cielo has cleaner-dancers than the other places that I've seen (which is a good thing for Cielo). Cleaner, I mean not as much grinding action going on.. The music was just too repetitive. Also, I wish they played more hip hop music or some music that I know that I can dance to. Overall, I would not go back to this place, especially if I have to pay that amount as cover fee.

$36 for a bucket of Corona's? Strike one. The fact that EVERYONE was buying them? Strike two. The insanely mixed crowd, drawing everyone from grandma's to inked up, roided out gays to Staten Island guidettes & 30 something finance daddies stumbling back & forth on an insanely overcrowded, smoke hazed, listing boat? Strike three. The Frying Pan may be nice if you get there at 4pm, get a key seat & sneak in a pocket flask but aside from that it's just a crowded sea shanty full of wasted idiots just looking to scream "I'M ON A BOAT!".

Europa cracks me up and really pisses me off at the same time. I've come here for a few shows over the years, because they book some of the more abrasive metal bands that just wouldn't be able to fill a club in Manhattan. Saw Pig Destroyer here back in the day, think I saw Car Bomb once, and saw Atakke last night. The sound is totally hit or miss. Pig Destroyer are one of my favorite bands and I remember it being one of the worst shows I've ever been to. Atakke's sound was really great. Totally hit or miss. Beers are at least twice the price they should be at a place like this in this location, but from what I understand, as soon as the metal shows end, this becomes an eastern european-type disco for underage Polish chicks. So I guess they can jack up the prices. From Manhattan, it's a total drag to get to and there's not a whole lot going on around after shows. I avoid Europa unless it's a band I HAVE to see. Would recommend you do the same unless you live in the neighborhood, in which case it's actually a decent place to hang out (good seating etc.). Just not worth the trip/money.
