On another yet aimless Thu night, 3 girlfriends and I decided to hit up Meatpacking on a spur of the moment impulse. On our arrival, the venue we had planned to go to was unexpectedly closed. Blindsided and with no back up plans our main concern was to escape the 10 degree weather into the next closet venue. So, Cielo it was. The line seemed to be short enough with only 6 or less ahead of us but was at a stand still for the most part. Taking a look at the line up of people outside, we were under the impression of an older, more mature club crowd. I squeezed my way through the front and leaned over for the bouncers attention to get some feedback. After exchanging a few laughs and conversation, he got us comped personally by the owner of the venue and we were gold. You can never go wrong with having dodged a wait in below freezing temperature and a $30 cover. As we entered the main area, shoulder space was sparse but the vibes of the crowd were cool. The party was kept lively with lighting and smoke effects projecting through the mass crowd of dancing people to the music by who I overheard on DJ set was Bart B More and Treasure Fingers. Usually, not my choice of scene but I didn't mind it. The bars and coat check were packed but the wait  was nothing serious enough to complain about. The bathrooms on the other hand were frequently used and were strictly manned by an overbearing restroom attendant. Though this was a slight damper, all in all,  the pros outnumbered the cons. Oh and most importantly, did I mention there is an outside section towards the of the back area of the venue designated for smokers? That's an automatic A+ in my book.

There is good in Rouge.  Groups of people happen to coordinate their clothing for a night and then come here.  If you want to come to have a good time, find a way on to the VIP list or reserve a booth.  IT IS THE ONLY WAY TO GO. Also, the hostess CAN BE SEDUCED.  If you are cute and friendly and in line the likelihood of ending up on the VIP list is much much higher. There are only a few haters here, but most of them are trying their very hardest to have an uninterrupted good time.  So, just steer clear from the nasty humper guys in the corner with those float like a butterfly sting like a bee dance moves (unless you happen to NOT mind being ruffied and raped). Yeah, best suggestion: go with your girls and be on high alert most of the night!  Also, we had a drink here that tasted like flinstone's vitamins!

I came here at 2 AM once to catch a friend's roommate who was DJing (great way to skip the line), and he was damn good.  The most notable part, as many people have said, is the decor. The giant Buddha certainly helps you to differentiate this from any other darkened Meatpacking venue, no matter how under the influence you may be. Me, I felt like I was on the set of a plays-off-like-indie-but-not-really movie set in some Southeast Asian nation, and this was the scene set in some pseudo-edgy, caters-to-expats nightspot, you know, the kind of venue full of beautiful internationalists where everything's drunken and drugged-up and surreal and then WHAM, something bad happens and the idyllic-and-hedonistic-until-this-point plot of the movie takes an ugly turn. And that was a really long sentence.  Luckily, nothing bad happened when we were there, nor were there many "beautiful internationalists" unless by "beautiful" you mean "overly made-up" and you consider Long Island and North Jersey to be exotic locales.  We were there almost till closing time, and then left, and then we got nachos in the East Village, and that's the end.  Roll credits.
