I've been to ESSR a few times on the weekends during the day for drinks and while I like idea of it being set up as a prohibition era speakeasy, it is a bit pretentious. The drinks are good, though. Last night a few friends and I decided to go for dinner. We were sat immediately at a tiny small round table that really isn't suited for 3 people. Our waiter (Blake?) was friendly but the drinks came slow and the dinner even slower. Granted they were busy but drinks shouldn't take that much time to get there nor that much time to even get ordered. I don't blame it on the waiter, I think it is all done on purpose. Our meals were really good. REALLY REALLY good. The food is right on albeit a tad pricey. But I don't mind paying a little more for quality food and I got it last night. My recommendation for ESSR is to get a little better ventilation as the kitchen smoked up the whole place. The food is good and the staff that helped us were as well. Just don't go there if you're in a hurry as you're guaranteed to be late.

My girlfriend and I went to The Velvet Room for the first time on a Friday night. We arrived early as recommended by rateclubs reviewers. Got there about 10:30 p.m. No line. Ladies get in free before midnight. Security check is very thorough, like airport security. Polite security staff. You may not take in ANY medication, RX or over the counter, so leave that in your car. Once inside we were very impressed with the high class decor. Gorgeous nightclub. We had arrived early and found no seating. We wandered into a bar area where we saw seating. A bouncer rudely commanded us away from the seating. I explained it was our first time and we'd like to sit until crowds arrived because we were in high heels. He told me that we were not allowed in the VIP bar area. Mind you, there was not a soul in that area. Not one single VIPer who might be offended by our presence if we sat temporarily. I asked where we could sit. He pointed to two armchairs in a dark niche which were already occupied. Anna and I stood in 4-inch heels from 10:30 pm until 2 a.m. THAT is my biggest complaint about this nightclub. If The Velvet Room wants to draw more ladies to the club who are dressed-to-kill I highly suggest seating of some kind. What I did enjoy: the free parking, the drinks were perfectly made, and we danced most of the night to great music. Everyone partying there was dressed well/classy. We met and danced with SO many interesting people. When we left I felt safe walking to my vehicle with the police presence.

I'm with the other recent reviewer in the opinion that this place just sucks. I was also there on the Jazzy Jeff evening, and while his set started out excellent, the crowd was just too much of a buzz kill. That said, most of the crowd seemed to be having a good time. They were total douchebags that I wouldn't even pretend to be civil to if they showed up with my best friend, but they did seem to be having a good time. So if you or your friends are douchebags (look around your group of friends at the club, is one of them loaded full of hair gel, dress shirt half unbuttoned, wearing a gold chain, and really enjoying his heineken?) then you'll probably enjoy an evening here.
