Visiting LA this week I went exploring "trendy" WeHo clubs/restaurants. It was Friday night, beautiful outside, and I was starving. I opted to sit/eat on the patio at the District Grill (part of Eleven) as I found the decor and people the most appealing. The waiter was sweet and great; the $5 Happy Hour fish tacos were excellent. What turned me off was the typical "gays" who find it "so trendy and cool" to come out to the patio, WHERE I AM EATING (hello?) and start smoking. Why can't restaurants prevent smokers from ruining everyone's patio experience? I know it's not practical to have two patios, so then there should just be one, a non-smoking one. My "right" not to smoke does not bother smokers, so why should the reverse be true? I don't mean to rant here, but come on. It is pathetic to see nice, seemingly successful men, who take care of their bodies by working out, light up, as if it's no big deal. Guess what? it IS a big deal. And the rest of us should not be subjected to their smoke, nor all the carcinogens. Worried about HIV? Hell, smoking is a bigger threat. Did you know that 50% of all who smoke will DIE prematurely and DIE due to a smoking-related illness (you know: stoke, heart attack). I urge businesses to take a stand. I am not alone.

Had a great time at the Improv! A Monday night, comedian D-Ray's function, but he was on vacation. Aw Damn! We were seated at 8pm, ordered food & had a few drinks before the show started. Seems the actually host for the night was Earthquake, but his plane was running late, so a female comedian from Compton was the host, very funny lady. The food was good, only had appetizers, but they went a long way, because the drinks were strong! A good strong, & there was a 2 drink minimum required. I laughed most of the night, can't even tell you the names of each comedian. Every seat was taken, it was a full house. Service was good, food came within minutes, our waiter came by several times to see how we were doing. A small venue, it can be a bit pricey but its the Improv! Some of the biggest comedians come up & out of this place!

I wanna play hide 'n seek at the Mezzanine. The place is so big and filled with nooks and crannies, you could easily get lost. Contemporary lines, concrete finishes and exposed steel, make it look like some rich guy's SOMA loft. The sound system is ridiculous. Stacks of speakers hang from the rafters and woofers flank the stage. Speaking of the stage, it's kind of an awkward design (which is the reason why I didn't give them a perfect score). It's kind of small and stuck in the corner. Oh, and Jessie St, is crack central. Definitely keep your mace handy and utilize the buddy system.
