by Barbara K. on Last Friday, I went to Top of The Standard for the first time. I love lounges with spectacular views of the city and even New Jersey. We were seated in the back next to the fire place. Standing next to fire on a cold winter night and having cocktails is wonderful. Now, the service, the hostess at the door, very polite. Our server very polite, a little slow but very friendly. Bartenders, snobby. For an overpriced extra dry martini, I would really like you to serve me with a big smile and ask me how my drink is. Not to look at me and say I'm busy with someone else. If you looking for a great view, warm fire and to show off how much money you are willing to pay for a drink, Top Of The Standard is the place.
by Kristen F. on First off, San Francisco Bakery is a secret because it's tucked away from everything else. It shares the parking lot with Alamo Drafthouse on Burnet, but it's not on the strip with everything else. The sandwiches are great here. The veggie on sourdough is so good. Their Caesar dressing is vinegar-y, which is delicious, if you like tart-tasting things. The best thing here is their bakery items. The raspberry chocolate croissant is my favorite. The staff is great, and limited in number, so there's always a familiar face. The owner and his wife had a kid recently, and they are always excited to show pictures or talk about him. They're a really nice family. My only complaint is that they don't take credit cards, but they do take checks, so bring your checkbook if you don't have time to hit the ATM. EDIT: The day I wrote this review, I went to eat at Chuy's for dinner, and lo and behold, the owners and their son were there! I told them I reviewed them on rateclubs, and again, I must stress, they are such nice people :)
