Can be tricky to find, even their logo is conspicuous, but I guess it's not so "secret" anymore, considering two different people brought me here on different occasions. Often gets too crowded around the bar area, so I'd recommend the up-to-half-hour wait if you're planning to do some rounds anyway and lounge around for a while.

so, first things first-- i totally get that philly's not the place to be prissy. on the whole, there's plenty of filth & rudeness & insanity to go around. and we love it in spite (or because?) of that. but if there is truly such a thing as purgatory, it must exist within the gallery at market east. i'm convinced that spending more than an hour at a time here is enough to drive a person certifiably nuts. this is supposed to be a mall, but hardly anyone seems to be actively shopping here. mostly, people aimlessly sit, stand around yelling, or shuffle around in large groups. which happens at every mall, sure, but given the fact that there's a train station attached, it becomes a bit maddening if you need to get from one end to the other. twice a week, i have to run out of work to catch a train at 5:30 to get to night classes at rosemont. i can't count how many times i've been caught behind groups of people who, if they moved any slower, would come to a complete standstill. in fact, some of them DO just stand in the middle of everything, preventing anyone from moving through without using physical force (saying "excuse me" is usually met with blank stares.) the food court is pretty gross (unless you're into ultra-greasy chinese food, burger king, etc.), as is the condition of the bathrooms-- treasures i've been met with there include poop smeared all over the floor/walls of the stall, and a used pregnancy test. i see cleaning crews walking around a lot, but garbage & the pervasive smell of urine seem to be ever-present. oh and speaking of cleanliness, one of my coworkers saw puke on the floor at the old navy & no one did anything about it the entire time she was there, despite people who work there being alerted. another tried on a shirt only to discover that there was dried blood on it. lovely, yeah? i could go on, but i think i'm verging into gross sensory detail overload. i give it two stars, though, because of the few notable redeemable aspects: (1) if it's super cold/hot outside (and you're not in ANY sort of rush), you can use it as a walk-through all the way up to suburban station. (2) the fruit/smoothie stand right above where the train platforms are located is delicious. (3) nine west & aldo outlets. (4) BODY CENTRAL! i'd write a separate review for this place if i could, but i can't find it on here. this is my secret weapon for finding business casual work basics & going-out dresses-- none of which will last more than one season, but that's justified by the super low prices. this is one of the only stores in the gallery that seems to actively change its inventory.
