by Muji B. on I love 1Oak. It's one of a kind. There are new spots opening up every day and I check them all out but in the end 1Oak is like no other place. It's where everyone goes to at some point or another during the night so it tends to be pretty empty around midnight and only starts to fill out after 1am. The doorman Binn... He may get many hate complaints however I have to say that he is actually a fair guy who is surprisingly polite. I've heard doorman in different clubs insult people. Despite that I go there every week at least once, Binn still won't give me hugs and kisses and instead maintains a professional attitude. (so don't be upset if he is not all smiles when you approach him for the first time.. it's just the way he is) The staff... They are polite and even the bouncers are very friendly and civil. The decor and ambiance... is very chic and upscale in a welcoming, comfortable way. The music... well it's mixed and they do offer some great Djs. Lately it's very IN to have the djs play a song for only 5 seconds. As if they want to make sure that you cannot dance to a song.. ever! I feel like the Djs are trying to show off by playing 4 thousand songs a night. Even though they may have Djs like Behrouz ( Few weeks ago.. it was awesome) they are more on the Hiphop style. (almost every night there are many celebrities and often singers like Jay-z just show up) The Crowd.. People of every race can get it as long as they look the part. By that I don't mean if they are blonde and hot. I mean whatever their skin color is they must be dressed right. Some girls might show up in tight sexy dressed and sexy heels but 1Oak is not that type of a club. Most people are dressed comfortable in a stylish way. Think hipster without the heroin-addict look. You might see men wearing business suits partying next to the guy wearing skinny jeans and converse shoes. Ladies are wearing little dresses to leggings etc but the sexy look has to be tastefully done. So no tight jersey dresses with leopard print. Many celebrities, models, and socialites. It would pay off to know a good promoter who can get you in and offer you drinks or get a table of your own otherwise you're in the middle of everyone and it gets packed. Smoking.. There are 2 smoking areas. If you can hold it off, do that because there is no air in there.. it's tiny and gets packed and the smoke is thick. (on the good side, being there for 5 minutes will give you the motivation to quit smoking) Bathrooms.. words to remember; try not to be too drunk or almost sick as the bathrooms are located downstairs and the stair is like a test for drunks. How to get in; Know some people, be polite, dress the part, act the part.. since they can tell the fakers.. be the part. Once you're inside, you will definitely have an amazing time. I highly recommend 1Oak to everyone who wants a genuine NYC spot with real NewYorkers. PS. Sunday nights are a promoter driven party apparently. It's an ok party. Not bad. If you've never been able to get in, then go on a Sunday to check out the place. Sunday nights are a bit off in the city anyways. I prefer to go on Wednesdays and Thursdays. See you there :)
by Daron Skrocki on This place is a really nice, chic, upscale-like club. I had my birthday party here last month and got bottle service for 25 people. Good music! Really nice bartenders. Bouncers are cool too. But unfortunately, I only give them 3 stars because of the bottle service. I gave the bottle service promoter the names (list) of 25 people for my guest list. Two of my guests who arrived told me they had to pay because their names were not on the list! I rechecked the list I gave the guy and BOTH THEIR NAMES WERE ON THIS LIST! When I finally arrived I walked in with 12 people! They all got in for free. Later on 8 of my friends (who were on this list) arrived and they ALL HAD TO PAY!! Even though all of their names were on this list that I was told that they will be free... They had to pay! I asked the promoter how come they had to pay and he said that he had already let in 29 people for my table! WTF? WHO WERE THOSE OTHER 13 PEOPLE?!?!?! The way they took care of my guest list was HORRIBLE!! They didn't really check the list and rather counted whoever said they were on my list! Anyone could've simply said.. "I'm with them." HORRIBLE! Otherwise, I had a lot of fun! If you're not doing bottle service for a big group... I suggest going to this place.
by Orville Hoon on I've been to the Park a couple of times now for Cuckoo Club on Sundays (gay party, which used to be held at Hiro a couple of blocks away). I'd always enjoyed the party at Hiro, and this one is pretty similar I must say. First about the club: this reminds me a lot of BBar in the East Village (the resemblance is actually quite striking), though the Park is significantly bigger with two levels and many different rooms. It is a dance club I suppose, though there isn't really a big dance floor like there was at Hiro, and as a result there really isn't a whole lot of dancing going on. The venue is beautiful (or so it seemed... it was pretty dark), the music is good (especially if you like to dance). The drinks are ok though I'm never a fan of the plastic cup and they're a bit expensive (not quite as expensive as they were at Hiro, if I remember well). I'm not too sure what to write about the crowd: a lot of pretty boys... but way too many posers! Seriously, everybody is so full of themselves that they wouldn't give you the time of day. Get over yourselves and your expensive (but kinda ridiculous) clothes!... 4 stars for the venue, but 2 for the stupid posers that hang out there.
