My friends, J.B. & N.B., treated me to lunch at SCK-Midtown today. It is an anniversary for us, we met 8 years ago, N.Y. Eve when we individually stopped to rescue a dog near I-85 and Armour Circle. Lucy, the very same dog, did not join us today. She remained home with a huge marrow bone. More later on that bone. We started with fried green tomatoes - some of the best I've had in Atlanta! We shared a bowl (thanks to our waitron, Jamie, for dividing it up) of She Crab soup. She good! My iced tea was perfect, a dark reddish, golden brown, heavily iced with a proper slice of lemon. J. and I each had the Catfish Reuben. I skipped the chips and had some perfectly seasoned collard greens. They seemed a little rich or maybe intense for me today. A generous helping that I couldn't finish. We all agreed that the Catfish Reuben was outstanding. N. had the grilled chicken salad. I like green salads, and rarely order a meat salad, but this chicken was amazing: tender, perfectly grilled with little bites of char. And that lettuce! Was it romaine? Oy! We all shared and swapped bits and bites. Too full for dessert. Noise was not a factor. Wish the loo weren't on the second floor. I was spared the cost of parking and the meal, thanks to my generous friends!

This is one of the few clubs in nyc that I find to be a guaranteed good time. Even when I have gone inside in a bad mood, once inside, I always manage to cheer up. This is mainly because of the music--the dj's are great here. The crowd is still good, however, it is unfortunately steadily going downhill in that area. They still manage to get celebrities pretty often though, which is fun. If you can't get in on a regular night, go on a Sunday, but if you're expecting a regular 1oak night, don't go on Sunday. Binn isn't working the door, so it's filled with promoters and their people, which doesn't give off the same vibe. The tequila shots here are like 3 tequila shots at most bars fyi :) So even though the drinks and shots are $18, at least you know they are not watered down.

I don't pay to get in but I stil want my money back. A unique place with a great set-up that looks like a classy speakeasy up top and a sordid nasty speakeasy on the ground floor / main dance area. Many rooms, nooks, curtains, booths, a huge back smoking area. It has potential. However, in execution it's crowded, seedy, and disorganized with a young noncoprehending crowd of just-past-drinking aged kids who pose and sneer and put each other down not because they are social climbers but because they are awkward and defensive and drunk. They don't look like they are having fun but you can't tell. Some nights they pay girls who look like strippers to climb up on counters and bump and grind with each other to the hip hop music. That kind of place.
