by Natasha H. on I have never tried the food here and didn't even realize it was a restaurant too until a few seconds ago. However, if the restaurant is on par with the club...then I wouldn't expect much! It's not that Roe is so terrible per se. It's more that their guest list policy is extremely aggravating. They hold the guest list line like crazy, and out of the 3 times I've been here, I've only gotten in once. The two times I couldn't get in my friends and I arrived around 10:15pm (guest list closes at 11pm), and we had only moved a few footsteps by the time 10:50 rolled around. Needless to say, plenty of frustrated party goers had given up by then, and at that point we did as well. It's too the extent where it's borderline false advertising for Roe to even claim they have a guest list. I'd also advise against laying down the $20 to party here. I'll admit, I did have fun the one time I actually got in. But, that's more related to the people I was with and my tipsy state than the actual club itself. There are plenty of other venues in SF where there's no cover (i.e. Bubble Lounge) or where the guest list line is actually legit, that are just as good and probably even better than Roe is. Why pay to party when you don't have to?! Sure, it's cool that Roe has 3 levels. But, there is absolutely nothing about it that sets it apart from the rest. Parking is tough too. After expending effort to find a spot and wait in a horrendous line only to not get in?! It's ridiculous! This place is not worth the gamble. Unless you're willing to pay the $20 or to get here around 9pm and then wait until 10pm for guest list to open, it's best to go elsewhere. I will not be back. 2 stars...and that's generous!
by D H. on this was perhaps the most disappointing eating experience i've had in New York. Words can not explain how terribly managed this restaurant is. I can't actually speak about the food because me and my partner waited for an hour and 15 minutes for the food to come before we walked out. Our waiter did not once come by once to apologize or explain the situation, we had to ask him. Granted, it was a beautiful space. but as i looked around the half empty restaurant on a tuesday night, i wondered why our food never came. The staff said the manager was going to come by our table, but after 15 minutes of waiting for her on top of our hour and 15 minutes wait for the food that never came, we decided that it was not worth waitng. At the door, there were other tables that just walked out as well. The host staff did next to nothing to help the situation. It baffles me that a place like this can exist in new york city. If you're planning on a special evening, i suggest another option because it certainly ruined our night.
by Courtney Ell on Everytime I go to Halo I love it and say I should go more often, but never seem to. The place - both the space itself and the crowd - has a great vibe. Chill, relaxed, hip, diverse. Its one of the few places I've found that maintains diversity and doesn't get overrun by one type of group or another. I didn't go 5 stars, because I despise paying covers. Not sure if they still do, but they used to have a guy who would play the bongo along with a guy spinning - it was amazing (if that is a certain nite - someone please let me know EDIT: Evidently that is Friday nite - thanks for the tip Gastro N.)
