by Mariella Whittaker on I was in Atlanta for work and I had to go to The Varsity. This place has been around for 80 years! There's noting overly special about the place outside of the history, but it's worth going to because of the history. Of course, any excuse to eat a chili dog works for me. The chili cheeseburger is great too.

The best nights are the special events, such as their anniversary party, new year's eve, halloween, etc. Yes, it is not as good as it used to be, but you can say that about most clubs. I still find it fun though, and there are still great shows (as well as some pretty disgusting ones!). The passion fruit/vodka shots are the best. I also miss when they used to hand out popcorn during the shows (or the one time they handed out pieces of pumpkin pie haha. I've met so many interesting people here, and it's the type of place where people talk to you even if they don't know you; people are not stuck to their groups of friends. Yes, Genc, the doorguy, can be moody and difficult, but once you get past that, you're in for a fun night.
by X E. on After a weekend in Austin for ACL (my first visit to Texas), I hadn't tried any barbecue (save a cafeteria-style pork sandwich at an aftershow), so I gave in to the aiport advertising. Who knows if it was *authentic*, but it was tasty and it stayed down during the entire flight home...For that: two enthusiastic thumbs up!
