First of all, I don't know why all my friends just LOVES Trudy's... Personally it's just regular Tex-Mex to me, it's nothing to die over... plus the place is about as crowded as 21st century hell most of the time. Of the three or four instances where I was persuaded to go there, the routine was always like this: Get there, wait for table, discussing alternative locations while waiting, deciding to wait instead, and me bitching at the person for picking this place. The service, once you get inside is alright. The wait staff is fairly fast and courteous, which is the only thing keeping this place from sinking to 1-star in my humble opinion. Then again, the close proximity to UT will ensure this place will be a money sink for years to come regardless of ratings. Thanks guys. Now my first response to the age old "so... where are we going to eat?" is... "Not Trudy's." I'm not kidding about that last part. You can ask my friends.

ew. pathetic and more ew. I DETEST places like this and only went because someone treated me. STK is sad. Exactly the kind of place that out-of-towners and people who call themselves "New Yorkers" but are really out-of-towners deep down go to try and impress their loser friends. Then there were sleazy Wall Street types trying to impress the female b&t crowd. Sorry people but I've got to be honest. Thats the point of this whole site, correct? Anyway, on top of that, the food sucked. Listen, if it's a good steak that you're looking for then just go to BLT Prime. I know that placed has been talked about to death, but they can cook up a mean piece of cow. If you just want to look as though you're "hip to the scene", then by all means, pay a visit to STK. And then go home and think about your life.

I went last Friday for DJ Sultan (Yoshitoshi) and was pleasantly surprised. I had pretty low expectations having read the scathing reviews here and on Metromix. Any new venue that compares itself to Studio 54 or Tunnel is guilty of blasphemy! Anyway, we arrived after midnight on guestlist, and my guy friends paid $20 while I paid $15 reduced. There was no hassle and no wait. The venue is decent. It's similar to Marquee though not as upscale. Drinks were expensive, but no more than any similar venue. The crowd was a mix of BT, middle aged tourists, and luckily some genuine NY clubbers. The sound was also surprisingly good. It wasn't too loud and had a nice range. It started clearing out after 3am. I think most ppl expected hiphop and not electronic music. I would go back for a trance or house music night. I can see the crowd getting annoying w/ hiphop.
