by Connie M. on In June/July of 2006, I visited the Georgia Aquarium several months after it opened, and I expected a lot since I've worked at the California Academy of Sciences and visited the Monterey Bay Aquarium a few times. It's beautiful once you enter the main hall. It was nice relief coming in from the Atlanta heat and humidity. My sister and I felt like we had to go where the crowd current took us, so we pretty much outlined the whole place. It's not as educational as what I'm used to when it comes to aquariums, but it's so amazingly gorgeous, I just wanted to lie down and drift off to sleep. They have a cool touching section for kids, but I worried a bit for the animals because I didn't see the two-finger touch rule being enforced. I actually could barely spot any employees, but I suppose because it was really crowded. I think my favorite were the sea otters. We were able to see them being fed and they're so cute! The female one, I forget her name, just swam around in circles with one of her paws in her mouth, like a baby sucking her thumb. Aww.
by David P. on I came here for DineLA week and got the prix fixe lunch. The place wasn't packed for lunch. I think there were more people next door at In N'Out. Minx has a good location though. It had a nice view out to the north-northwest. I started out with the soup of the day--a veggie soup. Not too bad. Nothing extraordinary. My main entree was a really good surf and turf burger. The bun was like a ciabatta, but it had the right combination of chewiness and softness so it wasn't a chore to eat. The meat was seasoned just right. The lobster on top of the meat was fried and oh so tender. It had the distinctive sweet, lobster flavor. Whew! It wasn't the langostino (aka fake lobster) crap. The dessert portion was a chore. The three of us got different desserts and we waited quite a while for them. Then the waitress came up and told us there was a mix-up; another employee thought we were gone and canceled our dessert orders. Weird. Anyway, to make up for it, we each got $3 off our meals. Our desserts were pretty good. The donuts were like corn hushpuppies; the sauces that came with the donuts were pretty good too. The chocolate cake was small, but really rich and tasty. The cheesecake was light and fluffy rather than thick and heavy; it had a good garnish of fresh berries. Very refreshing. The food was top notch. To be frank, I probably won't be back in the near future considering it's an hour away from where I live. I noticed Minx gets bad reviews as a late night club place. That's unfortunate because the food shouldn't be overlooked.
by Kandy Grieco on I went on a wednesday night because thats what they say. Now MJQ is really boasted about. I didnt see anything great about it. It is really more like a couples club if you want to dance, so if you are looking to mingle with others, you are out of luck. The scene there is, i guess diverse. Drinks are cheap, and the people there that look like kids but are actually in there mid to late 20s seem to love a beer called Blue Ribbon. My friends say it is something like Natty light...I would assume you can do better than that mr MJQ Im newly single, so maybe that is why I didnt like it so much...Everyone was partnered up already, and all i wanted to do is dance a bit. People were dancing, but not as much as you would think from hearing about it. I probably wont go back just because there are better places in atlanta....i just havent found them yet
