I just wrote up a long, detailed review of STK which mysteriously disappeared when I tried to post it. So - to sum up - if someone else is paying or this is going on a corporate card you should go. If not, don't. If you do go - try the sweet corn pudding. For steak - sirloin is the best bet.

I went last Friday for DJ Sultan (Yoshitoshi) and was pleasantly surprised. I had pretty low expectations having read the scathing reviews here and on Metromix. Any new venue that compares itself to Studio 54 or Tunnel is guilty of blasphemy! Anyway, we arrived after midnight on guestlist, and my guy friends paid $20 while I paid $15 reduced. There was no hassle and no wait. The venue is decent. It's similar to Marquee though not as upscale. Drinks were expensive, but no more than any similar venue. The crowd was a mix of BT, middle aged tourists, and luckily some genuine NY clubbers. The sound was also surprisingly good. It wasn't too loud and had a nice range. It started clearing out after 3am. I think most ppl expected hiphop and not electronic music. I would go back for a trance or house music night. I can see the crowd getting annoying w/ hiphop.

i can't even describe how i'm feeling right now. i really hate to give them one star (i really am a nice person). the food was the real disappointment for me. we ordered the veggie combo. the injera was a bit too pale and had an odd flavor to it. (btw, i love ethiopian food, so i'm familiar with injera). the greens also had a strange flavor too. i'm used to really spicy ethiopian food and nothing i tasted made me want to reach for the water (that they kept forgetting to bring to me). and then there was the pricing. the menu stated that the veggie combo was $9, right? well, the waitress assumed that we wanted 2 orders, so we see $18 for the two of us. $18 for a veggie platter for 2??? are you kidding? we would have been okay paying that if she had simply said, "so you want two orders, right? one order may not be enough for you." But did she say that? NO. perhaps i should return and view this place as a bar, not a restaurant. that's exactly what i would advise that you do! and for good ethiopian food, head over the bridge to telegraph ave in oakland & berkeley (or washington, dc). you'll have a happy tummy, i promise!
