by Laura P. on Nice little place for you to dance your heart out. If you are looking for a place where the drinks are reasonably priced and the music is always good, this is it. The dance floor might be packed later in the night but everybody is having a good time. Squarish dance floor with a couple of tables and high chairs to rest your feet. It feels like an underground club without being one. Good times for girls' night out or when you have no idea where you want to go. The crowd will get you moving on your feet!
by Joel J. on Since plans for my friend and I to go home to San Diego for the weekend got scrapped, I told him about the Goh Nakamura birthday show that was held at Cafe Du Nord. Have a drink, listen to good music. Not a bad idea right? Driving around for half an hour looking for parking got a little discouraging to go but fortunately we ended up parking only a couple blocks away in front of a Safeway. When we walked in, immediately we both thought, "Wow, this place is really chill." Sure, some nights you might want to get your groove on at a club or enjoy being in the crowd amongst many drunk patrons, but this place was a nice place to just relax and have a few pints. Friday night, have a drink, and add on some good tunes. Very refreshing. It's unfortunate that several others, judging by the other reviews, had a bad experience coming here but I had a good night. Maybe if I wanted to get into crazy party mode I would've crashed the party going on in the Safeway parking lot on the way back to the car.
by Millicent Sunier on I came here a few Fridays ago because my friend just broke up with his girlfriend and wanted to go out. So we got a table and bottle service. This was only my second time at Hiro and this particular night happened to be "Asian Night". Don't get me wrong, I love my people, but maybe I'm just a little older or not into the Asian Scene anymore, but woof...Never seen so many Cross-Eyed Sea Donkeys in my life. I was kinda embarressed when a few Asian dudes wore sunglasses on the dance floor like if they were Asian popstars. You ain't Kanye West with your shutter shades. From New Jersey, I take it? You know you're too old for these parties when girls have bleached Mustafa Lion King hair with fake tans. Girl, I don't think you're from LA, you look 7 Train-Frushing Main Street. But who am I to judge? I probably used to be just like them when I was 21, but I never wore sunglasses inside a club. It just wasn't my scene. I felt so out of place. I left around midnight and walked back home and got me a slice. Thanks Hiro for the lesson I learned. Not to come back.
