I don't know what the neighborhood club standard is in North Beach, but I'd rather sip on a $6 Corona elsewhere. It's like the bartender sighed every time he rung us up for a drink, as if he was embarrassed. Very overpriced. At least Ruby Skye can get away with charging this much. They don't have Heineken -- only Stella, Anchor Steam and Corona. They don't have Belvedere -- only three kinds of Grey Goose. The space is nice, kind of concrete and modern looking with intense disco lights in the main room in the back. I was a little confused why there were four motorcycles in the entry way in the first room (which was entirely dead). Also, this is the first and only club I've had to have a digital picture taken of me and have my ID scanned at the door. Yes, I am of age! I actually enjoyed the music in the back room for the Russian party I went to here since it was more house and breaks oriented with some trance thrown in here and there, probably only for the Russian crowd. My alter ego of the night was Olga and my companion was Gorbachev. Not bad. Just not great.

Icon is one of my favorite spots to get a drink and just hang out. It is the perfect mix of bar and club. I've been here on Friday's and Saturday's and have never had a bad time. The music is good and I like the atmosphere. It's usually a mixed crowd, which I like, and the bartenders are among the most efficient in the city.
