While in Atlanta on business, I thought I should try the local cuisine, so I rateclubsed "fried chicken" & was led to South City, located just a few blocks from my hotel. I grabbed a seat at the bar & the female bartender was curt. I wasn't feeling particularly warm & fuzzy about the service, but the atmosphere was comfortable. I ordered the fried chicken. It was excellent. Matched up with great sides, the entire dinner was way above average. Probably the best fried chicken I ever had.

bouncers weren't that bad to deal with, but don't bother kissing up to them because they have no pull to get you in. promoters are always on a power trip. on a good note for guys, if you are tight with a promoter, you will get in before girls who are not tight with a promoter. if you don't know the promoters, they will treat you (guys and girls!) like you don't exist. went on a wednesday night. emailed a promoter to get us girls on his list. he told us to be there by 10 pm but unfortunately stuff happens and we didn't get there til about 11:30. to make matters worse, you need the actual promoter who put you on their list to be physically there to let you in. in other words, they don't have copies of each others list (poorly coordinated) and if your promoter is inside partying or floating around, you're screwed (this goes for both guys and girls). there were also weird middle-aged guys who had no intention of getting into the club rubbing up behind girls in the crowd. hello, bouncers... do your job and stop the weirdos from harassing/assaulting girls! one star is for the beautiful decor and interior design. the dj (not DJ AM that night) and the crowd were so-so.

All respect due to the "local landmark/ legendary institution" aspect of the place, but I just don't get it. The food doesnt really TASTE like anything ... unless grease is a new flavor - in which case, it has A LOT of flavor. Now don't get me wrong, I love greasy foods. Fish fry? I'm there. Funnel cakes? Two please. Fried donuts? twinkies? snickers? Hells yeah! But there is a diffrence between lovingly cooking food in fresh oil, and letting it steep in rancid sludge that smells and tastes like the traps under the sink. The place is so saturated with grease every breath should come with a surgeon general's warning and every meal should include a pacemaker. The only appealing item on their menu was the frosted orange (or FO to the regulars) which I couldn't enjoy, because even IT tasted like grease! Thanks, but I think I'll just leave this local hangout to the locals.....
