Bravo!  After reading some rateclubs reviews about this place my expectations weren't very high, but once again (now 2x in a row) the majority had it wrong! (+) - This location looks a bit nicer than the West location - Got in before 10 so we didn't have to pay cover -  Some of my friends came in after 10 and the bouncer let them in w/o having to pay the cover.  Bonus point! - Bartenders were friendly, quick, and poured strong drinks. - They have a separate dance floor upstairs, and it's ginormous compared to the itty bitty one at the West location. (-) - Even though there are a bunch of separate rooms,  it still got pretty crowded at times.  Luckily the bouncers kept people moving. - Drinks = L.A. prices.  The best time to come is for Happy Hour. - There were a bunch of spilled drinks on multiple tables and no one came to wipe them off. (random) - A fight broke out on the dance floor that lasted a while.  The security didn't come until AFTER it was over, but that's because it was pretty crowded.  They did do a good job of finding out who was involved and immediately cleaning house after that. Overall a fun bar and a great night to celebrate my friend's 24th birthday.  I still prefer Busby's West to this location, but they're both fun in their own ways. Note:  Free parking is hard to find.  I'd suggest parking in the lots behind Busby's for $5, or valeting it if you trust valet people.

I went there recently with some friends. Overall, it's nice. There was no line to get in and we were on the guest list. It's small and cozy. It gets crowded but you can still move around. I just found that the crowd was not what I expected. They seem to have certain rules about attire; it was a very young crowd and I was expecting more of a mid to late 20s crowd with a more "adultlike" attitude. Some guys got really drunk and were pushing people and security had to interfere. There were 3 or more bachelorette parties that night and that was kind of annoying. Overall, it's nice and small but all the 21-year olds make it look kind of ghetto.

Fresh brewed coffee roasted in-house, sandwiches on daily baked focaccia bread, fresh fruit, pastries, soups, and a decent vegetarian selection allow for almost anybody to find something they like.  While I've heard that the night scene is pretty decent, Ive only been here in the morning and early afternoon and have not experienced the nightlife of Sugar Cafe.  During morning/afternoon hours, the place is pretty chic with its huge fireplace, fully opening front windows, couches, colorful decor, and free WiFi bringing in the trendy art institute crowd. Quality ingredients and a diverse menu really keep me enjoying different items without feeling like I'm ordering the same thing prepared differently each time.  Here though, the pastries are my weakness, a personal favorite is the monkey bread (chopped croissant dough rolled in cinnamon & sugar) followed closely by the popovers.  The selection of  baked items is pretty diverse with the standards like coffee cake, muffins, brioche, pecan rolls, croissants, cookies, and even a really tasty quiche.  A pleasant surprise is that the flavors vary day to day as the baker uses different flavors and some very tasty combinations of fillings for many items.  Overall, very pleasing to the point I suggest Sugar Cafe to almost anybody in the area looking for coffee or lunch and to many family and friends coming up to visit the square.
