watched the US-Ghana world cup match here so maybe the frenzy and excitement of that afternoon tainted my impression of the place. but it seems to me a perfectly good place to sit on a hot summer day and drink. and i really hope the guy wearing the American flag as a cape is a regular and wasn't just there for the soccer.

One visit and I'm impressed. It's small, but that makes it fun. Good crowd = friendly, dancing, just having a good time....Great DJ. Will definitely check it out again. It was exactly what we needed after stumbling into the Holy Cow....a hole indeed. But that's another review.

Temple is the kind of proper nightclub I haven't really been to much in San Francisco. It's spacious, with 3 floors and roughly four distinct settings; excellent, highly atmospheric lighting; and an expansive sound system that is fully capable of drowning the club-goer in beats and bass. The kind of place I can appreciate. There are a number of bars so even though the place was packed, it never took me more than a few minutes to get a drink, and the pours were good. So there's my review. Now for the story, which seems somehow appropriate for my 100th post. I feel like I'm joining the century club in style. I attended Temple last night for the Gumball 3000 launch party ( http://en.wikipedia.or...). If you're not familiar, and you didn't bother to follow that link, the Gumball 3000 is a legendary 3,000 mile car rally raced by largely wealthy and/or famous owners of luxury- and super-cars. For many years it went only through parts of Europe, however this year, by the grace of god, it begins in...wait for it...SAN FRANCISCO, and ends in Beijing. The entry fee this year is about $100,000. In other words, this shit is for real. So as you might imagine, this was not a typical night at Temple. Out front was parked a race-ready GT3, which made standing there for 30 minutes more or less worth it. And then inside...well, the glory continued. Even apart from the fact that I arrived with five of San Francisco's best looking people, the club-goers last night were decked out and smokin'. A number of random famous-type people were also in attendance, including Bam Margera, Alfonso Ribeiro, and the highlight of my evening, Antonio Esfandiari -- not quite as awesome as getting to sit down and play cards with the man, but a pretty entertaining conversation anyway. I mean, the man offered me a drink off his bottle service. He also had no idea what rateclubs was and thought I was trying to pitch some website idea to him. Good times. I didn't catch Alex Roy, captain of my favorite Gumball team, but I guess the guy in the green suit and sequined shoes who ended up walking around the club naked made up for it. On balance, an awesome party, and a pretty tight venue which I hope to get back to for a proper night of partying. And best of luck (and safe passage) to the racers, whose voyage this year passes through Los Angeles, San Diego, Las Vegas, Nanjing, Pyongyang, Shanghai, and Beijing. I sincerely hope to join you some day. The World Is Flat, Motherfuckers.
