We celebrated my best friends birthday in Medjool. It was awesome:) At first i hesitated to throw her birthday party here because of the location. It is after all in the mission were I knew we would have a hard time finding parking. But my boyfriend couldn't stop talking about the highlight of the club which is the roof top setting. So i decided to go ahead and try it out. I was glad i listened to him. The place was great. Great customer service right from when you enter the door. The decor was very nice:) the drinks was a bit too strong. But I guess we got our moneys worth. The food was delicious and the price wasn't so bad at all. the music was ok. They played mostly house and hip hop. We actually found parking right away and the waitress told us that there's a parking garage close by for $10. The bouncers didn't give any our guys a hard time at door. There wasn't anyone fighting or being disrespectful. It's nice to go to a club where there isn't so many girls dancing almost naked. He he he... best of all the view from the roof top was so beautiful. i would definitely come to Medjool again:) its a great place to have dinner and dancing.

I went to Yoshi's last Saturday night for Dine About Town. I've been to the Oakland Yoshi's before and thought I'd give the SF one a try. Finding parking on the street was a pain so we parked in the Club One garage across the street. It's surprisingly cheap there, $3 for the first hour and $1 for each additional hour. The neighborhood is pretty nice and busy; there are lots of other restaurants and venues on the street. Yoshi's is hard to miss with a HUGE sign out front. I was surprised by how large this Yoshi's is-there's the theater in the back, a large bar area, an upstairs bar area, a small seating area by a small stage for live music, and then the huge restaurant floor. We were seated promptly in a table by a DJ setup. Apparently a famous DJ was coming later for a private party. I ordered the DAT menu and my fellow diners ordered various other dishes. We started off with the seasoned endame sauteed in garlic, shallot, tamari soy sauce. The portion was pretty generous and the flavors were really good. Per DAT I started with the Sashimi Morikomi with maguro, hamachi, salmon, albacore. The fish was fresh and tasty. For the main course I had the Kurobuta Prime Pork Rib 10 oz. in ginger miso with roasted garlic jus. I really liked the flavor of the pork rib and the tenderness as well. I'm not usually a pork fan but this was really tasty. There are some fatty bits here and there but I just cut those pieces out. I also ordered some brown rice to eat with the meat, which I recommend since it would be too much meat to eat on its own. For dessert I had the Malted Milk Chocolate Mousse Cake with chocolate coated cereal bits and asahi black beer caramel. That was the booomb! The portion is pretty big and the chocolate covered mousse cake is light yet decadent. The best part is the chocolate coated cereal bits-they're like little chocolate malt balls and add a delicious crunch. I coulda eaten 2 of these! My companions had the dragon roll, which they said was good, and the Miso Braised Short Ribs. The short ribs came in a generous portion and were more than enough. I'd also recommend having rice with them. The only critique with that dish was that there wasn't much else in terms of vegetables or condiments-it was just 4 big chunks of meat on the dish. Overall we all had a great time and enjoyed the food. This is a pretty solid restaurant and I'd be open to going back again.

This place is right out of the pretentious pages of 'American Psycho.' A place where people go to feel important, and spend hard-earned Vinings dollars in a flashy Midtown environment. I, for one, had no place being there - as I showed up at a friends request in jeans and a t-shirt. Stepping out of a brand new M3 must have convinced the doorman otherwise. That I was "good enough." We sat down to an exquisite table setting, complete with a "chopstick resting" accessory that none of us would ever use. Loud club music hovered above us. I looked over the typically meek vegetable choices and was quite surprised. I settled on the "Spicy Shanghai Noodles, Chilled Silken Tofu, Garlic and Herbs" and the "Vegetables in Green Curry." The noodles came out with a block of tasteless, silken tofu that I suppose was to be crumbled within the bowl of "soup." It tasted much like noodles in vegetable broth, wasn't "spicy" at all, and an occasional piece of soggy spinach or canned mushroom would "float" into my spork. Real let down. The "Vegetables in Green Curry" was surprisingly a favorite of the table full of carnivores, although I've sampled better curry in malls. My wife grabbed a Halibut entree that had absolutely no flavor, and embezzled most of my curried broccoli because of it. I dreaded handing over $80 hard earned dollars for the dissapointment. But I did, and once again have realized that "trendy" will never suffice my taste buds. I could have bought more than eight El Myr burritos and had a better time whilst actually hearing the present company. Pass.
