by Kevin H. on So I was supposed to go here for a birthday party and the organizers of the party reserved a table and made sure to get everyone attending on a guest list. i knew it was hard to get in, so i purposely tried to get there early so there would be no problems. I got there a little before 10:30, and there was no one in line. Three of us (2 guys and a girl) walk up to the promoter and tell him we're on a bday list. we tell him our names and he casually glances through the stack of papers, and then he tells us we're not on the list. I ask him if he's sure or if there's someone else I can talk to, and he says no. Okay. so i call my friend who organized the get together and ask him whether they put us on the list. They said they put us on 3 lists. We were on 3 lists and the promoter was unable to spot our names. As i'm talking to my friend on the phone, the promoter tells me not to block the line when there's no one behind us. We ask the promoter to check one more time and he gives us so more attitude. So we decide to just wait till the rest of the party gets here. when we come back a little before 11, there's a ton of people in line and they won't even let the people on the table reservation in. At this point, we decided to just take off and go to another place. Later that night, we find out that the table reservation was given away. Lets just say that out of the 80 people that were trying to celebrate a friend's bday , not one person from that group of 80 ended the night at Harlot. Thanks Harlot for the memorable birthday celebration! I just don't understand how Harlot and the promoters can run a business like this. Why have a guestlist if the promoters can't even read the list? Why take a reservation for a table when it is given away? I understand that Harlot and the promoters can choose who they want to serve, but how do you make the offer to host a party for 80 people and think that it is okay to just disregard a customer's reservations and plans? Reservations and organization that were done with the actual promoters. Harlot and the promoters essentially defecated on 80 people. They will continue to get other customers, but this is really bad business. What ever happened to customer retention?
by Fernando v. on My brother decided to go here for his birthday. We got all spruced up for the place because we heard it was "nice". This is not a "nice place". Unless you like dressing up for every occasion I wouldn't recommend wearing your nice shoes here, since the outside and most of the inside is quite dirty. Smoking is outside, and for this you must embark on a journey. After asking 3 times I finally got directed to the smoking area. The smoking area is large and very ventilated; you walk outside and meet an aluminum staircase walk down and you're at the smoking area. It was raining when we went so there were puddles everywhere and no lights. We also got kicked out from the lounge where we were sitting. I wondered why since the place was only at about 5% capacity. When I asked why we were being kicked out, the security said: "Oh... uh... I ... don't know" and walked away quickly. Bottom line: Too much money. If you like this type of experiences you're better off hanging out at the Funky Monkey in Hayward where it's free. I
by Pattie Jauss on Mexican Martini is worth the money - I always go for Top Shelf Tuesday (top shelf liquor for house price) and get El Tesoro with cointreau. It's badass. About $10 (very worth it) and you get a full shaker cup good for about 4 martini glasses. For food I always get the stuff avocado with queso on top ( amazing) and refried black beans. I like it so much I don't care to try anything else on the menu. The migas enchiladas are also good with queso on top of course. A lot of people like the suiza sauce but queso is where it's at if you like cheese. It gets busy real quick at night so try to get there before 8 if possible - we usually go at 7 and there's no wait. The seat yourself bar area set away from the dining room has flat panel TVs and plenty of booths/tables if you haven't tried it out - it may be a little less loud in there when it's busy - and you might get lucky and find an open table to bypass the dining room wait when it's really busy. They raised the prices fairly recently but they're still pretty average for Austin and it's still packed - so many people are addicted we'd probably still go if they raised the prices again.
