ummmm... yeah... well okay i am really not a huge fan of asian clubs and haven't been to one in ages. .. but i decided to go with some friends. i bumped into an old friend at 3rd floor and he told me that place was a mess... a cluster fuck.... well when i got there that is what i felt. The place was packed with no space to move. to get to the bar or go to the bathroom you had to bully your way through the crowd that wasn't very nice or accommodating.  the drink prices were way too expensive and all i could think to myself was that i am way to old for this crap. I have to say that the only redeeming quality at all about this place is that there are a lot of hot chicks there.... but i don't think i will be back here anytime soon.

So I guess a few weeks ago, JL Sullivan's became Tavern on Broad.  Today was my first trip to either establishment.  I went on the recommendation of a friend. Sidenote:  Why aren't there more sports bars in Philly?  Is it me or does every bar in New York have that NFL Sunday Ticket banner hanging beside their front door?  I spent Weeks 1 and 2 at Fox and Hound, but it was PACKED with people.  Not only that, but there aren't even enough TVs to go around, Pats-Jets on ONE screen?  Come on. This place started out at about 4.7 stars, and ended at about 3.3 stars, but you kind of have to experience it to understand why.  So here's the running diary of our day. 12:30 - My friend (the one who suggested we try it out) and I meet. 12:35 - We walk underground into the bar.  All 12ish TVs are on preview shows.  There were probably about 20 people there - 12 customers, 8 staff.  We are greeted by the hostess "please!  sit anywhere you like!"  I ask where the Pats game will be on.  "Anywhere you want!!"  Nice.  My friend, an Eagles fan, put in his request and we made our home at a corner of the place. 12:40 - Waitress comes by.  Drink specials - $4 on domestic drafts all day.  The only domestic drafts are Coors Light/Miller Lite.  "And I might be able to get you a Lager for $4."  Wow, really?!  Pints of Yuengling on special for $4?  Have these people been to another bar in Philly?  These "specials" should be $3, max.  There was also a half-price burger special (better), but we didn't bite. 12:45 - Waitress back with first round.  We ask what's up with name change.  She rambles for a few minutes about changing identity and trying to attract new people or something... and remind people they are associated with McFadden's.  Why they don't just name it McFadden's Tavern or something, I don't know.  Anyway this conversation made little sense to me. 1:00 - Games come on.  Screens adjusted to our liking.  Empty pints are replaced. 1:30 - Friend orders some food.  BBQ Chicken Sliders or something, upon waitress's suggestion.  $9 for 3.  Fries an extra $3.  I'm not hungry because I made myself breakfast at noon. 1:45 - Food comes out.  Sliders disappear quickly.  Fries aren't bad.  Pretty much everything as was expected. 2:15 - Waitress #2 comes by and clears our plates.  We still have some water glasses, our beers, and unused silverware. 2:25 - Waitress #2 comes back - "can I clear anything for you?"  mind you, the only thing on our table are two water glasses our beers, and unused silverware.  Confusing.  We tell her we're ok. 2:45 - Second halves are underway.   Waitress #2 again.  "Can I clear anything for you?"  Huh?  She leaves.  I think she came back one more time. 2:50 - Eagles game, third quarter.  Cut to commercial.  All through the first half, we had the Eagles game audio over the bar sound system, including commercials (typical).  But now, we are muting the game and getting some music!  The Proclaimers, no less.  Someone talks over the music "hey stick around the Tavern on Broad pints for $4 all day!" This was exceptionally strange, that they had a DJ to play over the commercials.  Only during the second half. 3:20 - Waitress #3 just comes takes silverware without asking first.  What nerve. 3:30 - Who needs commercials - "our Sex is on Fiiii-rrrrrre"!  $4 drink specials!!  Waitress #1 comes by to refill our beers.  We have this exchange. Me:  Did he say all pints $4? Her:  Yep!  Just like I told you. Me:  Yeah, is that only for domestics? Her:  Yeah, but Coors is domestic so you're all set. Me:  Yeah, but do you have other pints?  Are they also $4? Her:  No, just Coors and Miller. Me:  Oh.  Another Coors Light then. (What a terrible special.  Did anyone who works here go to SIPS, when beers a $2 on special?  I'm afraid to know what import pints cost.) 3:40 - Eagles win a game that was pretty much over in the first quarter.  Waitress #1 checks up on us - I ask for the 49ers - Vikings game to be put on one of the three tvs that had the Eagles game.  "No problem!" 3:42 - Pats wrapping up a win (yay!). 3:45 - Waiting.  I get Waitress #2's attention.  Ask for 49ers-Vikings game.  "Yep!  I got it". 3:50 - Still no game.  I get the guy who has been changing channels attention.  "Niners game?"  He's like "yep!  I'll do it".  He stands there, staring into space.  I tell him "the game is on now, there are like 2 minutes left."  He didn't realize this.  This game had been on other TVs at the bar for nearly 3 hours. 4:00 - We pay up.  Niners lose a heartbreaker on the last play.  Time to go home. So overall, not a bad experience, but it just became more strange as we went.  The bar is looking for an identity.  They need to get more people in - maybe 40 people had come during our time there.  I'll be back - if only because I can get a seat - but there is a lot of room for improvement here.

I enjoyed my time in Hiro.. the venue is somewhere asian. place is big so you don't feel you are getting pushed everywhere. Drinks are pretty standard. second floor has a bar and tables too. Overall the place was nice and music was good. Make sure you get there early otherwise might be a long line
