King king is A hole in a wall. A small hole in a wall A very small & ugly hole in a very ugly wall Though some of the DJs are good, the crowd is trippy and weird with no consistency. If you can happily party with any soul without restrictions then king king offers just that. A small version of Avalon, Vanguard and Music Box. Its a good place to go if you want to hook up with random folks that enjoy the dance music best while tripping on some illegal substance. Two stars for some of the very good DJs. This place is straight out of "Stuff White People Like". Seriously. Let's go down the check list: Brunch? check! Asian Girls? check! Coffee and tea choices besides regular and decaf? check! Bikes parked outside? Check! Stupid Art on the Wall?  Check! People best suited for another line of work waiting on you? double check! Oh I got tired, but it ticks every box. This place is in a converted warehouse space and that makes it "soooo coool, and grity and like REAL".  At least it isn't as obnoxious as Morning Glory and there were actually people from Philadelphia eating there. The service was horrible.  There were three servers on and really not that many tables.  I didn't get a napkin or a plate to put my tea bag on.  I had to ask for creme for my tea.  I didn't get syrup for my french toast.  It also took FOREVER to get service, not having to do with the kitchen speed. My french toast was good--it was wayyyy too sweet but that's my fault.  It was marked sweet and it had ricotta on it.   My brunching companion's mushroom frittata (co-opted white people speak for an omelet) was delicious. I think I might try and go not on a weekend, because the food was actually pretty good.  The service will probably be better.

steve starr...hype asian fusion...hype real world philly hang out...hype It's a lot of hype, and the last one should probably have given it away. Of all the Steven Starr restaurants in Philly, I must say this one, in terms of food, is the most average and mundane. It's your typical wasabi mashed potatoes, westernized potstickers, and assorted fish steaks asian fusion restaurant. After that, Pod also offers a sushi bar and your typical Thai and Chinese stir-fry dishes. The portions are large and are done decently well, but I just expect more from a restaurant of this supposed caliber--more creativity, more daring entrees. Food-wise, it's just nothing terribly special for the price. During the multiple times that I've had recruiting dinners here or come here with friends to celebrate an occasion, I just haven't felt any change in the menu...maybe, a couple of specials...but besides that...it's been the same things repeated over and over again. The only thing that saves Pod from being relegated to the 2-star level is the fact that it has a cool bar and some fun cocktails. It's definitely a nice place to hang around and get a drink, and I prefer it much more as a pre or post-dinner cocktail lounge because I'd much rather go somewhere else for food. If you're in the mood for Steven Starr, Asian fusion, and cool atmosphere, go to Buddakan...it just feels more suave and I think the food tastes better there. Additionally, I hate the blue uniforms that they make the Pod staff wear.
