This is hands down my favorite restaurant in Philadelphia. It is my "special occasion" restaurant, I have been here 3 times for my birthday. I went to MORIMOTO in NYC 2 years ago for my birthday and while their Omakase tasting menu is a bit more involved (and pricier) and slightly more upscale than the Philly Omakase, I still prefer Philly's tasting menu. My boyfriend and I always get the aforementioned tasting menu and the cocktail called the "White Pear," which tastes a bit like Smarties. Our server asked how long it had been since we last tried the tasting menu so that we would have a different tasting experience from last time. What followed was multiple courses (8 I believe) of absolute yumminess (this word applies). My favorite course this time around was the seared tuna + kobe braised short ribs during entree courses. The ribs were tender and the tuna was seared to perfection. The decor is fab and the ambience is bustling but the couples seating on that lines the sides of the restaurant feels pretty private to me. I also adore the lounge and they have a special happy hour menu which is a great way to try some sushi and cocktails for a reduced price. I highly recommend this restaurant.

I used to love the old cafe, it had good music to dance to, and hot go go dancers that would dance on the pool table. It was just awesome good times. But yesterday, Saturday night, the DJ there was terrible! Every time he would transition two songs, it would sound way too awkward, and everyone would stop dancing. Every time. And sometimes he would switch songs 10-20 seconds at a time, so you'd have long periods of awkward nobody dancing moments. It's like you had to try every 60 seconds to find the right rhythm to dance to, which there's something seriously wrong with. And where were the go-go dancers? Do they not do that on Saturdays? So they charged a $5 cover fee to experience that? I probably won't come here for a long while. Would have been 1 star, but they had their A/C going so it wasn't hot and sweaty at all. But yes...Bad music=sad me. :(

I am not totally sure why, but I always have a good time here. Despite the wait in the line, frequent entry cover, bros lurking, and general fratty manners of many folks, I always end up having a blast. The combo of the ambiance, art, decor, music, and my friends always equal a great time. Drinks are overpriced but strong and two bars tops help (although you still have to be really pushy to get a drink...literally pushy, those bros can and will take you down). Proximity to BART is grand. But most of all the flat out denials to dudes I have seen my friends dish out here are what is truly entertaining. That and dancing like a maniac to terrible mid-90s music, eating free sandos, and seeing your gf take her first tequila shot of her life. Ah. Minna-rvolous.
