walk into this hidden spot in the silverlake area and you'll find an awesome venue with two rooms of good music and good vibes. came here for a special event so i dont know what the music/clientele is normally like. but on this day, the crowd was cool, chill and very eclectic! in the larger of the two rooms, there's a small staging area where they had dancers and live music as well as DJ's spinning everything from hip hop to funk. there are booths around the outer portion of the larger room but i didnt really pay attention since i was on the dance floor most of the time. drinks were pretty much LA priced at $8/cocktail (noticed i didnt say Hollywood priced, otherwise it would have been more like $13). parking was valet at $10 (not too shabby) in the back of the venue. this is silverlake, so the crowds are always very chill and laid back. the biggest complaint i have is the location of the bathrooms. they're right in the front (by the stage) of the larger dance room and in the hallway area between the two rooms. so when the lines start to form, it creates a bit of a traffic in the walkway.

Had an awesome time here last Friday 11.6.09 seeing Audion. Staff was super friendly, you don't feel compelled to dress like a ho (I did anyway, but see, that was a personal decision), drinks are reasonably priced (seriously, 7$ for a mixed drink - in a club? granted I just moved back up to SF but I'm used to club drinks being at least 10$ +), dance floor was almost perfect. Very mixed crowd. Freaks to geeks no problem. I'm not going to rate down a star for the guy in the middle of the dance floor who wouldn't check his bike helmet, though he personally gets a giant WTF on that one. Minus one star for the sound system. Not being a sound person, I'm not too sure what exactly was wrong, but the bass and treble seemed wrong in some way. Still, I danced for many hours and had an awesome time I will definitely be back for infinite dancing.

I like a place that states what it is upfront "your dive" because that's what it is. The drinks are cheap and the crowd cheaper. The Sunday salsa party with its gay cruising and straights dancing is a bright spot for any Sunday afternoon. Then the margaritas are a little weak and the lines for them long but necessary to help you dance. Always worth calling ahead to see what they have going. I once went there and there was "Fairy Butch" leading a night of FTM transgender revelery. yeah for them, me not so much. The bathrooms are, well, they call themselves a dive!
