Ahhhh...Michael Mina...How many ways can I tell you how fabulous dining at XIV was??!! There is a saying that the way to a man's heart is his stomach, but I believe this applies to women as well because Michael Mina has stolen my heart with the delights offered at XIV. I was so nervous to eat there because my high expectations and hopes for Bouchon were ruthlessly crushed just a few days before. Was XIV to follow the same diabolical path?? Upon entering the bustling restaurant I greeted my friends, Hera and Beth. They were starved. Although I was 10 minutes late for the reservation, our table was still not ready. "Uh oh," I thought. This does not bode well for the evening. In addition to waiting, an employee ran in to Hera causing her to spill a bit of red wine on her hand and arm. It fortunately missed her coat which had an exposed white lining, but the employee didn't even apologize or acknowledge his misstep. Again, I thought, "Uh Oh." However, instead of the cold and abrupt service at Bouchon, the hostess was more than apologetic about the spill and even helped Hera wipe herself off. In addition, the General Manager rushed over with concern and profusely apologized for the mishap. He then had to feel the wrath of a hypoglycemic Beth and offered the three of us some sliders while we waited for our table to be cleared. The GM handled everything with humor and class. So far...LOVE (I am drawing a heart in the air with my index fingers). We were disappointed to find out that the DineLA restaurant week menu did not apply to weekends at XIV. Oops! I was fine with that little detail but it could be a costly mistake for less prepared patrons. Hera and I had the $49 3-course prix fixe dinner and Beth ordered the braised beef short rib. For starters, Hera and I both had the butternut squash soup. Wow. We would have licked our bowls clean if it wasn't in bad taste. The bowl arrived with a beautiful spiced marshmallow foam in the middle, an array of beautifully brunoised butternut squash and peanuts, and marble-sized spheres of apples. The soup was then served tableside. It was an art. Just gorgeous. For entrees, Hera ordered the jidori chicken, Beth ordered the beef short ribs, and I ordered the tapioca-crusted snapper. The jidori chicken was the moistest chicken I had ever tasted. So juicy and flavorful. The braised short rib was out of this world. So tender with all the flavor of the braising liquid infused in it seemed each crevice of the meat. The snapper dish was amazing, although, you did have to eat each of the components of the dish together in one bite to achieve maximum/ideal flavors because the white soy vinaigrette at the bottom of the dish (which the rice cake had been sitting and soaking in) was pretty potent. Everything together made sense to me. Speaking of that rice cake thing at the bottom of the dish...this was what the snapper and greens were laying on. The rice cake reminded me of a McDonald's hash brown or a really big flat tater tot---but better...oh so much better! Beth also ordered a side of the jalapeno creamed corn. The spice was definitely a welcomed addition to the creamed corn, cutting the sometimes over richness of the dish. For dessert, Hera and I both had the root beer float with chocolate chip cookies and Beth was enticed into ordering the bourbon glazed doughnut holes with banana ice cream. Wow again! The root beer float was refreshing and I couldn't even finish the second cookie. Hera liked it enough to ask for a little container to take it home. :) The WOW is for the bourbon glazed doughnuts. First of all, they were the prettiest doughnut holes I had ever seen in my life. You couldn't help but want to eat one. They just shined and glimmered at you luring your hands in just to take a bite. The banana ice cream was smooth and divine. Beth's only complaint was that they didn't give her enough! All in all, the dinner was delightful. We were all so pleased and giddy at the end of the night. Even Beth, who initially had reservations about the pricing, said it was one of the best meals she's had in a very long time. Food should make you feel joyful and I am happy to report that XIV by Michael Mina was utter pleasure. Couldn't have asked for more.

I have been a fan of JImmy Johns for many years now. I had it for the first time in Athens, Ga and was excited finding so many when I moved to Atlanta. I always get the veggie. It is soo soo good. Im not really a fan of sandwiches but there is just something about the bread that Jimmy Johns uses that makes their sandwiches so delicious. Far better than Subway, Blimpie, and all the others.

Alright, this place is NOTHING like the Pink Pony.. BUT definitely a "Must-See." There sure are plenty of great reviews on the Clermont already.. but I need to add a little something. The first time I went to the Clermont, I was with 2 friends.  One who had not been there, like I, and the other who had been there. Since we were Clermont-virgins, our friend who had been there bought us a lap dance from Porsche (I don't think she gets the credit she deserves, being outshined by Blondie all the time).   Porsche started out with some conversation.. she told us about her grandkids and mentioned "I'm the oldest gal here!  I just turned 60 last month." So, Porsche gave us a lap dance.. and there are just not enough words in the English language to appropriately describe those few moments. Porsche was wearing a "Little Red Riding Hood" outfit which conveniently had elastic around the neck - for easy flashing - which Porsche took advantage of.  Then she lifted up her skirt and said "Look at my peach cobbler, all you need is a spoon and some ice cream!" (I am 100% serious.. not exaggerating.) Anyway.. Porsche is forever ingrained in my mind and I have a great story for the rest of my life.  Definitely a good time.. and I've been back several times since then!  No more lap dances for me, though ;) In addition, I've seen Blondie, who of course crushes beer cans with her boobies.. and I've seen another young lady who will light your cigarette with her nipple.. seriously. In addition to the group of lovely ladies at the Clermont, there is karaoke occasionally.. and of course a full bar.  The Clermont Lounge is located at the bottom of the Clermont Hotel, in the back.  You have to take a big set of stairs to get down there.. I'm not sure if there's any other way. During the week, there is not always a cover, but on the weekends, there is a good chance you will have to pay $5 or $10 to get in. I try to take all my out-of-towners to Clermont because it's sure to provide some great memories..
