by Frank H. on Going with the 4 stars on this one. We've been there 3 times... the first two times the burgers were off the charts good. Love the beef there... just on another level. We did have an off night... burgers were a little dry... so... knocked the review down a star. the sweet potato fries are great! Burgers are very flavorful and just all around great. Drop in and give this place a try. It's not very big... I would suggest you go during the week and avoid it on the weekends or Friday night. Very busy! But... just go... if you like a really good burger... this is the place to go.
by Monroe W. on Ok rateclubsers. This is my first review so i'm a little nervous. I went to Playhouse last saturday night by myself. I met friends for a drink somewhere else, they decided to take to the house and i wasn't quite ready. I've been friends with one of the promoters at Playhouse for years and followed her around LA to the various clubs she gets involved with. I got there early-ish around 11 and the line wasn't too bad. Still, the security dudes were all hyped up about keeping people from stopping on the sidewalk. One of them got up in my grill about that as i was looking for my friend and was very aggressive in telling me to move along. We actually had words with each other. Not a good way to start. Dude was not pro at all. But then i saw my friend and was ushered in. She put a white wrist band on me and gave me a little red ticket. If you don't have a personal hookup at the door, i can see how it could be a drag real quick. Inside was very clean and nice. Totally agree with Rosa K. There's always something nice about catching a place when everything has that shiny look. The staff had the cutest outfits on with feathers in their hair. It gave the place a real Moulon Rouge feel i dug. There were dancers and acrobats flying all around as part of the stage show. Very cool. the crowd was friendly and sharp. Turns out the little white wristband was for a private area upstairs. There is a nice lounge up there that doesn't get too crowded. I had a couple random conversations with approachable people. that was nice. I didn't tune in too too much to the music but the couple times i did i found myself swaying to the groove, despite never actually entering the dance floor. The staff i interacted with was cool which made up for the jerk outside. So yeah. I had a good time. They seem to be trying something upscale with the decor and mood. I will def go back. Take the time to try and work a hookup at the door though.
by Gisela Mcdonald on My wife had seen on rateclubs the rave reviews this place gets for its veggie burgers, so we decided to give it a try today. We each ordered a veggie burger- I thought it was okay- nothing to rave about. However, now my stomach feels totally bloated and cramped, and so does my wife's, and those burgers were the only thing we ate in common today. In summary, if you have a craving for veggie burgers that'll put you on the can for an hour, National Mechanics is the way to go.
