I came here with my wife, sis in law, bro in law, and family for restaurant week. Hey, it is restaurant week and the wife and I just got married (woohoo!) and wanted to spend some quality time with the family before we left for our honeymoon. Thanks for ruining everything Mayes Oyster House. Lets start from the beginning.... It started off pretty well actually. The server seemed nice enough. Everyone ordered a prefix menu except me (I wasn't in the mood for). Oysters: I don't know much about these. I had a couple, they didn't taste fresh to me, but I am not really the oyster person. I can't count it against them. $1 an oyster doesn't seem like a bad deal. Salad: They staggered the salads... which was weird. So everyone was eating at different times. They bring me a salad. I remind them I didn't get the prefix menu. They take it back. I tried some of the wife's salad. It seemed pretty decent. I am a sucker for salads. Soup: Clam Chowder. Again, the soups are staggered (why can't they bring it all out at once I don't understand). They seemed to be different portions as well. Two of the bowls were clearly larger than the other 3. They bring me soup. Once again, I tell them I did not order the prefix menu. I tried some of the wife's soup though. It wasn't bad. Not the best ever, but not bad at all. I enjoyed it. Interlude: This is what I would like to call our hour plus wait time for food. We got there at 6:30 and here we are at 8pm waiting for our food. Flat out ridiculous. Oh yah, the place was pretty EMPTY, so I am not sure what the chef is doing in the back. Main Course: I can't really comment on the prefix menu because I actually didn't try any of it (surprising since I had the salad and soup already eh?). The portions up to those point was fair...until the main course. They were TINY. Okay, lets give it a shot, perhaps it is PACKED with flavor and simply AMAZING. WRONG. Oh yah, did I mention that the food came out staggered again? I don't know why they cannot bring out all the food at once so we can eat together. I got the kobe beef meatloaf (I know, ground kobe beef is absolutely pointless, but I wanted meatloaf). It was so small. I am talking TV dinner small, and it tasted like it too. No kidding. It was disgusting, but since it took forever to come out I was starving. The mash potatoes tasted DISGUSTING. It is a disgrace to the cook back there. C'mon man, Chili's, TGIFriday's, MY OWN MASH POTATOES taste better than yours. It was extremely salty and tasted like the microwave/instant junk. Pathetic. The vegetables I had were forgettable. Taking that I remember how disgusting the meatloaf and mash potatoes were, I guess that is a compliment. Dessert: There were two options, bread pudding with cinnamon (I think it was cinnamon) ice cream, and mexican pudding? The father in law got the pudding, he took a bite and put it aside. We all gave it taste, ugh.. no good. The bread pudding with ice cream came out. It was HUGE. It looked delicious. They bring me one. I give up. I am not returning this. Not after I told them twice that I didn't order the prefix menu and my dinner sucked. Huge mistake. It looked delicious, but absolutely tasteless. The wife and I also started feeling a little sick after eating it. The ice cream was good! Props to wherever they bought it from because clearly they didn't make it themselves. The check: The sis in law doesn't put up with this kind of nonsense and after negotiating, we managed to cut the bill in half. I ended up paying $150 total for this meal. I still felt ripped off. The SIL told me she would have gone lower if she knew I felt this way. I knew we should have waited in line at House of Prime Rib. We would have eaten at the same time, but at least we'd be a lot happier. This place is a solid 1 star. 1 star for letting us negotiate the price. NEVER AGAIN.

people really have to get over the fact that this is an after hours place and take it for what it is "a chance to catch AIDS just by sitting on a bar stool".  I love that all the hipsters think this place has catchet.  It's sad, and it's a neighborhood nuisance.

The MPD is much better with the retaurant and bar. With a cobblestone driveway, watch out women if you happen to have your favorite heels on. I happened to stand outside and take picture of guests and upon arrival most of the women scraped their knee and/or ruined their Versace dress. Anyways, the atmosphere is the best thing about this place. The first thing you will see is the big Buddha! (duh, hence the name). Everything else around you is pretty much dark and intimate. A seperate outside, but still inside, smoking room is beautifully scented with incense. The music is great if your into that Indian/Tribal stuff. The food is really pricey and you certainly pay more than what you get. I ordered a filet mignon and it cost me 50 bucks for maybe 2 or 3 bites. At least 2 or 3 good bites. But still, This is not a casual place to take a family. I would take a date and the dance floor opens at night for you freaky deaky peeps.
