Why so much hate for 40+ yo Asian guys. They are part of the EDM scene. Going to clubs in Toronto (Guvernment and Comfort Zone), I have seen my share of 40 yo Asian guys. I go with my wife and friends and always have a great time on Saturday night at Avalon. The world is full of different people and Avalon surely brings them out on Saturday night. Life would be boring if we were all the same. From a 40 yo Asian Guy :)

I'm not sure about the hotel itself, but their banquet room....holy smokes! My cousin had her wedding there a couple of weeks ago, and I was truly embarrassed for her. I would've asked for a refund. I worked at the Ritz Carlton doing banquets for 3 years, and let me just say, I felt like I was at a Motel 6 reception the other night! It's so sad too, I was so looking forward to my first time at the Renaissance, it looks so beautiful towering over the Arboretum, but all I can say, is ewwwww!!!! The food is what really concerned me here. It was simply horrible, like worse than Applebees horrible. They passed around a seared tuna dish and some kind of curry samosa as appetizers. They were both blah. The tuna barely sushi grade, the color was more like a marbleized reddish-brown, and the samosa tasted straight out of the freezer. God, it only got worse. At this point, we were all starving, so you can only imagine our disappointment. For the first course, they served an over-cooked risotto, that was so mushy it took forever for anyone at the table to even identify it. Mind you, I am surrounded by Chefs. The second course was iceburg lettace, a tomato, and some fake bacon bits. I was like, "yes, I love a Wedge!" Well, they did eventually come around with blue cheese dressing, but no crumbles. And the produce was far from fresh. This is Austin, there are so many good farms/markets with local/fresh produce. There is no excuse. And then, the main course. Blah. I don't even want to describe it because re-living it makes me nausea. Sorry to sound so dramatic, but I am pregnant! So, basically it was a chicken breast, a small piece of beef (don't know what cut, it was gross though), and some kind of sweet potato casserole. Everyone's beef was well-done. Totally ok with me, as I'm pregnant, but there was a sad sigh throughout the entire table. The chicken was rubbery and the casserole tasted something my 12 yr old niece could have made. I'm sorry to be so tough on you Renaissance, but you should be better than that, and you know it.

One of the better brunch places in Sunnyside.... big menu, tasty food, and free mimosas/bloody marys. Not so great for dinner though b/c of the expensive prices. Read more about y experience at Sidetracks here: http://sunnysidefood.w...
