by Nathan S. on I got my Rock Box on this last weekend and will definitely be coming back. This Friday as a matter of fact. Had reservations at 8 and I got there around 7 to check it out. Sat at the bar had a couple of beers and a sake sangria. The sake sangria is a must. There were many other drinks on the list, but I did not try anything else. However, I did notice that the Hello Kitty seemed to be a big hit with the ladies. I didn't try any of the food either, but it looked great and I will have to try next time I'm in. I was with a party of 5 and we had the room on the street side with the frosted glass and street speaker option. This added to the experience by being able to perform for the passerby. The room setup is both classy and modern. The sound system is top of the line and you can adjust to your preferences. The song list is huge and up to date with many current songs. The key is to book a room early, because as I found out there are dates in March that are already booked. If you don't have a room, they still open up the lobby in the bar area for a place to karaoke. Good times for all!
by eLLe D. on Sigh, i dont know how to rate thy greenhouse. I have been here countless times within the past year and have had goodtimes, and i believe your slightly better that A-OK but i wouldnt say im a fan, sigh, half star, where art thou?....so 3 stars cause Im slightly jaded frm being there ample times, so that may be affecting my lackluster. but anyhow......... So the thing about greenhouse is, its a box the size of a NY main street intersection crammed with multilevel tables and crystal lollipops hanging from the ceiling enhancing the lighting affects. Their music is their main attraction for me, good tunes make for goodtimes. It was all so good last summer when it was fresh and new and not so overcrowded, but now this little box gets soooo jampacked that it has become unenjoyable for me. I was there monday supporting a promoter friend and it was just unbearable with all the heat and all the people, no room to dance, everyone has to stand up on the deepest crevices of the couches and booths and just rock out as hard as possible within their personal space. No room to navigate, or bend over to put something in your bag or to even get a drink from our own table, theres always glasses spilling and breaking, I required the magical powers of moses parting the seas just to get to the bathroom, which is also majorly snug. Its gotta take some real talent for those cocktail waitresses to land those drink aids and bottles all in tact. Again this is on a monday night, and i would shrug it off to "this is maybe just one of their hottest nights" but i have been here countless times, different nights of the week for the past year, and most of the times its just packed like that no matter what day. Thats why on the (now rare) occassion that im dragged here, as cool as the music may be upstairs, i usually opt to go downstairs to their smaller, better ventilated, less congested dance and house music floor, where theres lots of room, good music, and funny dancers to watch and join. Its more my style, stepping away from all the hype and all. I super heart dance music anyway, cause i actually like to dance! But back to the upstairs, as snug and airless and uncomfortable as it already is, people still find a way to kick the annoyingness up a few notches with massive amounts of weed and cigarettes. Its just so annoying being a non smoker, more importantly being a pro-shower and wash my hair-er and not liking to leave a place smelling like an ashtray. WAY too packed, WAY too much weed & smoke, Its just pretty GHETTO at this point. They should really tighten up the door and stop letting in so many weed heads w/ their "mans and them" and so many underage gossip girl wannabes in their cheap jersey minidresses and ONE pair of discount loboutins via ebay. Sigh, anyhow, people deem a spot to be hot, if everyone is trying to be there. Greenhouse has definitely got a lot of that, but both outside the club and in. If you catch it on a good day or during low key hours and youre with a fun little crew, youll have room to dance and have a good time (unless of course u like the whole sardines in a can thing) the music is almost always good. The crowd is not so much pretentious, but more so 20's & 30's scenesters - peeps who hear about the place through hype & promoters and just want to be a part of the scene. I cant say much about the drinks cause everytime im there, there's always already bottles at the table or im already drunk lol. Anyways my FIRM suggestions if youre trying to survive a packed night are: definitely come through with a promoter with a table or get your own bottle & table because the way the club is built there is really NO place for you to stand around on a packed night, im not exaggerating, you will be stampeded by bottle servers and all the scenesters trying to cross the room countless times to say hi to their "very important" long lost "friends" or heading to go use the bathroom (aka show off their outfits) as a train of them hold hands and railroad anything in their path. If youre like me and truly value your dance space, try to get the upper most VIP glass box tables. If your tight on funds, and u dont like being smothered but you managed to get in and still insist on being here, just take breaks by heading downstairs every now and again. (FUN FACT: I always see "celebs" and tv personalities here. That night, Teresa, Jacqueline, and her daughter, all from Real Housewives of NJ were crammed into the corner table right next to me along with some posse. They all looked nice and done up, less tacky NJ and more sexy NY style than usual. Most of the times when i looked over, they were ALL passionately checking their cell phones and some blonde friend was taking pix of them. But i do recall Teresa getting up to dance to empire state of mind, lol, cute. PS. Jacquline partying w/ her daughter, partially cool, partially questionable, cause shes under 21, but whatevs *shrug*)
by Stephany Hamberry on Very unimpressed with this place. Odd location - I mean who honestly wants to go partying up on 52nd street? I always joke that I don't like going above 14th street but what started as a joke is turning into reality! Came here on a Saturday night. One of my promoter friends was throwing a party (free bottles, yay) that was supposed to be something to do with Hawaiian Tropic. I saw no tan girls in bikinis prancing around so I assume that was a hoax. Anyway, the place is pretty big, three stories in all. We were up on the third story tucked in a corner table in the back. Decor was alright, I guess, nothing special. Typical club with mirrors everywhere, low seating around the table and music loud enough to make your ears bleed. Line for the coat check was out the door, big turn-off. Stairs to the 2nd and 3rd floors are hard to find, which I found just stupid. Crowd seemed like the typical B&Ters, but I'm talking the far-out B&Ters... the kids who have to stay up till 6AM the next day to catch the first train back to Islip (ha). Not my crowd whatsoever. Overall just a really lousy place. Apparently they just renovated the club, but you can't tell. Really no reason to go here, unless you want to take a shot at a 25 year old group of female comm majors still living at home in Oyster Bay who have to get back to their parents' house the next morning.
