NO place in SF has screens bigger than Jillian's except for the IMAX but you can't watch sports there. AWESOME place to watch sports. I must have watched 5 or 6 world cup games here in the last couple of weeks. Conveniently located in the Metreon this place has drink, food and pool tables. The burgers are about $12 and decent. Drinks are above average in price. If you want to see your game on a screen the size of a 20 foot wall this is your place. See video from Argentina game: http://www.flickr.com/... Video from Mexico v Argentina: http://www.flickr.com/... The video will show you how the fanbase is and how large the screens are.

Sambuca's is a nice little spot for the WJZZ crowd. Unfortunately that's not me, which explains why I hadn't been here since 2003 (I do love jazz, though - check out my review of Churchill Grounds). Within the last month or so, Anthony David performed and I came through with some friends to support. The venue is nice, the patrons for the most part beautiful, the staff courteous, the music, on this night, was top shelf, but I'm told that was the exception, not the rule. With that said, I believe Sambuca's falls short by establishing a reputation as a 'jazz cafe' whereas it is neither a true jazz spot or a cafe. It's, in reality, a semi-upscale restaurant with live music. For people like me, that makes a world of difference as to where our expectations are set and or fulfilled. It's kind of pricey...and Atlanta, how many times must I tell you to avoid the lines and $10 parking fees by parking yourself down the street and walking? huh? All in all a decent, albeit overpriced and misdirected, way to spend one evening out the year.
