I went to the opening night party at Project One on Saturday. The lounge used to be one of those "trade only" furniture showrooms so the space has amazingly high ceilings and a nice flow. Project One is not a new concept, rotating art gallery and bar, but they do it well. They have a good selection of beers (I like any place where I can get a Guinness, Stella and Hoegaarden) and wines. The art is quite cool. I was quite taken by some of the black and white photographs of Grand Master Flash, M.I.A., and the like. I can't remember who the artist was (I wonder it has anything to do with the multiple beers?). Joe, the owner/manager, is the sweetest guy around. He makes everyone feel like an old friend. You can tell that he has put a lot of effort and care into this space. He has created a vibe that is cool without being slick and comfy without being divey. I can't wait to see the next round of exhibits. I hope he makes an effort to incorporate some local artists into the installations. Bonus: It is located in the design district of Potrero Hill which makes for easy parking at night!

hmmm..what can i say about this place? it's cool, clean, friendly and moderately priced. i like how they provide you w/ a bowling ball at the counter. they measure your fingers and the weight so you don't have to go around to each shelf trying to find a ball. they charge by the game and not by the hour. this works out if you like to lag and mess around. we played two games and about 20-30 min of pool. they also prorate the cost if you play less than an hour. we came on a monday night so of course there was hardly anyone there. there were plenty of lanes and they even had glow in the dark lines to help guide your throw. everything seems pretty high tech and up to date. it seemed like they remodeled the place because even the taxi driver didn't know what we were talking until we told him the address. it's a nice place to hang out w/ friends and large groups. we didn't eat but i saw another party order pizza and it looked pretty gourmet. they have multi drop down projection screens playing top 40 and videos. it's a great place to bowl, play pool, eat and drink. only con about this place is the location. we took a cab there from downtown ($25.00) and then waited over half an hour for a cab to come pick us up. the ride back was cheaper ($20.00). make sure you call ahead for a cab to pick you up.

There's not much left to be said that others haven't said already. The big room on Saturday nights is hip hop body movin' music and they pack the place full of people. It's hot and sweaty but somehow sexy. Nobody cares what you're wearing or what you look like or how lame your dance moves are. The bartenders are cool and give great service, reasonably priced drinks, cash only - and don't complain about it.
