I don't know who Koko is, but fine little joint he or she has working on Geary: a little divey without being divey, a little artistic without making obtuse overtures to same, a little ambient without waxing overtly sultry. It's a nice, simple formula, the bartenders are quick with a drink and happy to hazard a quick chat or melt into the background accordingly. A few of us stopped in for an after-dinner drink and the reviews of this spot definitely delivered. Tonight they were showing Hitchcock's "The Birds" up on the wall, in between what I can only describe as what appeared to be two separate bookended canvasses featuring, quite possibly, internment at a sort of topless POW camp. Artistic, yes. Odd, yes. But the overarching vibe of Koko Cocktails? Friendly, with a salt shaker full of cool to suit.

came for a Thur night concert. The only part that sucked was that the performance i went to go see started an hour later than expected. Other than that, i had a fine time. The place was just about 3/4 packed. Drinks were moderately priced. Crowd was very low-key. Music was GREAT.

Update - Ok so Majestic does serve pancakes. I must've been too drunk to see that the first time. Why I went a second time, I don't know. Maybe it's because my friend who was designated driver took me there! It was much better the second time around - no cockroaches. I'm changing this to 2 stars instead of 1. WTH? I was told this is a historic landmark and I must go there one night after drinking. OK, maybe if I were still in college I wouldn't have minded it. But I swear I saw a rat run across the floor! The silverware was dirty, and the service sucked. And it wasn't just because we were all drunk and loud. EVERYONE in the place was drunk and loud. AND they didn't even have pancakes on the menu. What kind of late-night diner doesn't have flap jacks? I would've taken an IHOP or a Denny's over this place.
