I went to a midnight session, but the band being great stood out more than the venue. The band playing that night was Soul Cycle. It was a great session. I think the venue could arrange the seating better, it was kind of tight....me and my neighbors were closer than I would have liked but again the music being good helped distract me from tthe qualities that could have been better. I willgo back...just because I love the music.

Best Hibiscus Margaritas ever! This crazy little dive is like going to a house party in someones garage and the crowd is so eclectic, it's really hard to not have fun here. I have never tried the food because we usually come here to warm up for a long night of dancing. The dance floor is a blast and the music is great but I think a prerequisite of DJing here is not being able to mix. I try hard so hard not to laugh when the next song comes on as they make the most horrible beats at the transitions. Have a few hibiscus margaritas and the crazy bassakwards beats all add to the charm of Little Baobab.

Mmmmm...yummmmy.... I finally made it here for dinner with a few friends and it was good stuff. Two of us arrived a bit early for our reservation so we sidled up to the bar where we each ordered a Drunken Palmer from the very friendly server/bartender. We chose the Drunken Palmers from a list of fancy cocktails which all sounded like they might just hit the spot on that lovely, warm, pollen-filled spring evening. Since it was cocktail weather, I completely bypassed the wine list when I really should have taken a look to see what was on there, but I had tunnel vision once I noticed that refreshing libation consisting of Lemonade, Iced tea and a few liquors that sounded like they would pack a delicious and powerful punch (seriously, more than one of these and there would have been a Drunken Katie to go with it). When the rest of our party arrived, we were promptly seated on the patio (we had a choice of patio or inside) which, thankfully, was enclosed so as to avoid having a yellow coating of pollen on every available surface. I love the interior and the layout of South City Kitchen - it reminds me of when I visit the home of my friend's very Southern family in South Georgia; the rooms all lead to other rooms and everything is kinda sprawled out, and there are always people eating and drinking everywhere. Our server approached and told us the specials of the day which sounded very good. We did, however, all choose to order from the regular menu with the exception of the soup du jour, which I ordered. It was a Calabasas squash soup which was spicy (spice not heat) and very flavorful. I quite enjoyed it. Other members of our party ordered the She-Crab Soup (which I heard was excellent) and the Caesar salad which had garlic-grit croutons and fried okra on it. I was fortunate enough to be given an entire garlic-grit crouton to try and it was delicious. I probably could have made a meal of just those. We also received a basket of warm corn breads and biscuits with butter and they were excellent. The biscuits were so light and buttery, and the corn bread had a wonderful flavor. There were many items on the menu which appealed to me but I finally selected the Sauted Shrimp and Scallops with grits and garlic gravy for my entre. It was very good. I nearly cleaned my plate but had to throw in the towel at the end and leave behind about two bites of grits. This was hard for me; I do love grits. Two of my dining companions ordered the Fried Chicken, which they loved (and these are Southern folks, mind you). They didn't let me try any of it (actually they might have if I had asked for it before it was all gobbled up). My other friend ordered the Whole Fried Catfish, which was gigantic and came with hush puppies (yum!), cole slaw and some dipping sauces. I tried the catfish and it was delicious - very tender and flaky, and fresh-tasting. I was so full that I couldn't get dessert although they looked excellent. I will be sure to pace myself and save room next time because they have the kind of yummy Southern treats that I like - pecan pie, banana pudding, cobbler. Our service throughout our meal was excellent. We were extremely well attended and never had to wait for anything, and the timing was perfect. I will gladly return!
