Swank atmosphere. Drinks are average and overpriced. The live Jazz music with burlesque was a nice touch. I did not enjoy the service. The staff were not enthusiastic and seemed to be bored.

I went to three places for my birthday (it was a Friday) and this was the last place my friends and I decided to go to. BUZZ KILL It was WAY too crowded and I had to fight off crowds to get to the bar. On top of that, when I went downstairs, the music sucked too! Watch out for an old fat ugly white dj because he was very rude to us (and I'm being polite). There was obviously no one dancing to his songs except the pissed drunks and so my friend decides to request a song. All in all, that douche could have said no in a nice way but I guess you'd have to be there to experience how much of an asshole he was. After that, we were planning on gathering all our friends to leave and I saw a couple more people TRYING to request songs. I guess his ego was hurt cause nobody liked his jams and a lot of people kept trying to request songs so instead of accepting constructive criticism, he decides to keep being the crappiest dj ever. I would never step inside this club again if I have to deal with cranky old people who thinks they're the shit.

There are plenty of things not to like about DNA Lounge, but the few likable things are key and manage to keep its head above the water. This place is dirty.  There is nothing elegant or chic about DNA Lounge.  Stand in any given place long enough and you are bound to have a drink spilled on you.  Floor stains abound, and there's a slight funk in the air (perhaps the sweat from the pimply-faced hipster next to you, moshing with himself). The crowd is VERY young. I'm talking latter college years. And each poor soul carries one of two demeanors: either a wild and crazy look-at-me-I'm-transgendered-and-proud raucousness, or a so-subdued-you-just-have-to-ask-me-about-my-emo-me lancholy quietude (emphasis on the TUDE). Each person here is desperate to be seen at the scene, which is unfortunate because I hate all these hipsters/scenesters/ass-sters. They spend so much time getting their "bedhead" just right, all so they can look exactly the same as the next freak-of-the-week and call themselves unique. On to what I do like about DNA Lounge.  The layout of the place is interesting, and quite well-suited to the intimate shows often hosted.  They've got a central stage which can be easily seen from both the floor and the upper level (the stairs wind up the side of the stage and makes for a great place to enjoy the show). I went for Saturday night's Bootie party, held monthly and featuring Smashup Derby, a really great mashup band.  The music is certainly choice.  Where else can you hear "Billie Jean" sung to the tune of "Smells Like Teen Spirit"?  They picked some classics and really took them to a new level.  Definitely worth seeing.  Otherwise, the DJs really have a good ear for playing what the crowd wants.  Everything from hip hop to rock will get played at some point.  Just be patient and wait your turn. Despite the preponderance of hipster stupidity, the crowd was pretty diverse.  The transsexuals and the marina jerks all seemed to be getting along well enough with the punk rockers and the aZn bOiS.  Rodney King would be proud. Finally, the drinks and cover are reasonable.  Go early for the 2-for-1 deal when the next Bootie party rolls around.  And bring all your sexually confused, beautiful friends.  I wouldn't go to DNA Lounge for a night out, but you might catch me at the next Smashup Derby show.
