I was pulled into a dinner at Morimoto by an obligation that I could not back out of.  As I was still in the job market, splurging on the chef's tasting menu wasn't justifiable.  So this review is geared towards others in my situation or otherwise on a budget. I was pleased that it is possible to dine at a reasonable price at Morimoto (I am referring to reasonable given the type of restaurant, of course).  Dinner for two consisting of a glass of red wine a piece with an assortment of sushi and dessert with tax and tip for around $100 or slightly above that. Half the fun can be people watching - for example, the table next to me was occupied by a hollywood actor when I dined there last week.  The design of the restaurant is tastefully modern and the seats were much more comfortable than I expected based upon the website's pictures of the interior.  I enjoyed the ambiance far more than Distrito.  I am more concerned about the quality of food than decor, though, and that weighs heavily in my ratings. The food was not exceptional.  I've had better suishi in the city.  Much better, in fact.  I got to try a bite of three other entries at my table - the salmon was exceptional, though Marigold Kitchens' salmon is far superior.  Dessert was divine, although misleading in its description (brownies with a consistency resembling fudge, for example).  Presentation was great and service was top notch. I've given it two stars because the text rating for that is "Meh. I've experienced better", and I have.  That's not to say it was a bad experience as it clearly wasn't, but just that I'll not be seeking it out for return patronage.

We decided to go here for my GF's birthday last Sunday. Booked a reservation and all the stuff. You need to secure a cr. card for parties of 6+. The place itself is very nice, and for $12 you can park in the downstairs parking lot. NO validations. The area few blocks away from there is pretty ghetto (as evidence by a car with smashed window and another car that was raised up on two cylinder blocks and had no wheels...) So I would recommend either parking downstairs or make sure you have nothing in your car that friendly folks from Western Addition would like. Our waiter seemed like a nice fella, but since we were not ordering $500 worth of food, he was talking to us in a very condescending tone.   Although we got our food pretty fast, in between that the waiter was no where to be found. If you enjoy looking at a HUGE plate with tiny bits of food on it and paying $$$ for it - this place is for you. I've had better sushi on the corner of Hyde and Union for half the price. Anyways, food sucked and not worth even 1/3 of what you pay. Waiter took 20 minutes to get our check to us (I am not exaggerating) . And let's not forget that he got 20% tip that was included in the bill since it was 6 of us. Unbelievable! The show was really good. Tickets are NONREFUNDABLE and there is a 1 item minimum. Yet again the waitress took her sweet time with everything. I got some beer and she did not give me a coaster. So I asked for napkins and got them...10 min before the show was over. Band was great, but again the service sucked. I gotta give special props to the extremely friendly and nice black gentleman that stamps your hand before going into the jazz club. He was the highlight of the evening. Overall - 2 stars. Skip the dinner in favor of something in the area. If you like Jazz, it is a nice place to go.

I came as a courtesy to a friend who hosted an event. The place was packed, being a Sox event. The food, part of the entry fee, ran out. Not good. Doesn't the venue check attendance tickets to estimate food amounts? My main beef: Bartenders don't return change. I visited TGB's website to complain. I clicked "About Us" and got diverted to "Take a Tour." I then clicked "Contact Us" but found no list of officers or other email addresses. After reading sundry comments about the bar on rateclubs, I figure they just don't care about customer feedback. It's bush league that waitresses-bartenders don't return change. It's rude, off-putting, and costly: Stiffed patrons don't tip the second time and tell friends to boycott the venue. I generally encourage people to tip $1 per drink. If staff doesn't return change, don't tip thereafter. Let 'em pocket the first $.50 (losing the other $.50) and give zip the next time. As for waitstaff and barhelp: Return ALL change. Even a penny. It's that simple. Don't EVER ask if you can keep something. Get a rep for shnoring tips and patrons will vote with their feet. Also, smile. And don't walk around empty-handed. Plus act like you like your job. Nothing turns off customers more than snooty, aloof-acting staff. Ignoring actual roots, in reality TIPS = "To Insure Prompt Service."
