I can count the number of awesome places for Japanese food on all 10 of my fingers in the bay area. So when my BFF wanted to come here, I was a little hesitant because of the price; BUT it was my BFF's birthday and ... well birthday boys get what they want on their birthdays. All of our party didn't show up, so the few of us hung out at the bar. I had an amazing drink called L'Poire to start off the night. MMMMMMMM. You gotta try it! We started off with veggie & lobster tempuras. OMG ... the veggie tempura? The batter was amazingly light & crispy and the lobster tempura was good, but nothing to "OMG" about =b. For entrees, I had the rib eye (very good), my friend to the left had the lamb chops (better than the rib eye) and my friend to the right had the half chicken (very tender and tasty). Thinking about it just makes me salivate ... The service was very good & attentive, but it was a birthday party ... so I wouldn't know how good the service is until I go there with just another person. Will update on service when I go back there again. Japanese food with live jazz music? SCORE!!! Will come back here again and again and again ...

I've been here twice now (both times for a friends birthday). I've liked everything I've tried. The Top Flr Mac N Cheese was my favorite.

Wow, I can't believe I haven't reviewed this place yet. It is the first place I ever went in the city and the spot of almost every http://mediabistro.commixer. I frequently volunteer for http://mediabistro.com, so you'll see me at registration, snapping photos or (fill in the blank). This bar is extremely spacious and can offer flexible walls for you to control crowds at any party you might want to throw here. There are 2 bars, which is always nice and fancy. Often the gallery has good art, or interesting installation art, so it makes for conversation topics with "strangers" you're either trying to impress, or just want to chat. On my first visit here in 2005, I wondered what the girl in her underwear was on the outside and when I went to my first party I felt a very cold, "I'm too cool to talk to you' vibe from the people" so I've never returned to 111 Minna to just kick it. I only come here when I'm working as a result of it. However, my experiences with the bar owners have always been awesome, so I give this bar 4 stars because you have to let this place grow on you even if that means giving it a second chance, when necessary.
