Piano Bar closed a few months back after changing management and after a full-blown head-to-toe remodeling, it quietly reopened two weeks ago. Gone is the awful country bumpkin interior. It's now dressed in a STUNNING contemporary-gothic style decor. The bar is VERY dimly lit inside, which provides enough darkness to fuel the luminosity of the table-top candles. An outdoor smoking patio reminiscent of a quiet Bayou-adjacent street in New Orleans is welcoming for the smokers. And anchoring the patio beneath a string of hanging lights is a faux street lamp with glass-enclosed flickering gas lit flame. The focal point of this venue? An old grand piano, standing center in a wide open space near the back of the venue that would normally be the dance floor at some other joint. When I visited, they didn't have anyone in to play it, but I was told by a friend of the manager that they have someone come in to perform on certain nights. On nights the piano is on hiatus, an electronic jukebox does the work. New management really knows what they're doing and pretty much have it right. Friendly and unpretentious, Piano Bar is a great intimate spot for drinks, mingling with fresh faces, and just a break away from your typical Tinseltown bar/lounge/club. A great neighborhood style watering hole. Drink prices? Cheap for L.A. They serve them cocktails up pretty strong too.
by Woodrow Kennie on It's not really my scene...like at all. I think I was the only fag in the place. But I was there with friends and had to oblige. But seriously...ew. In reality- It's not much different than some of the cheesy Castro gay clubs I've been to. Everyone's out to get laid. Ladies- I had a big problem watching you practically give away the mystery of your nether regions. It was not classy. I felt like I was in the Red Light district in Bankok. Your skirts were frighteningly short I practically saw butt-cheek in every direction. Girrrrl, it was 40 degrees out! I was cold just looking at you in line at the door. Men- You gotta learn to loosen up. Drink more or something. Relax. You do not have to have your muggin face on all the time. Do you really have to look tough at "the club"? Jeezus. Try not to bump into people on purpose and watch for the small ladies in a group travelling in a line. Come to the dancefloor with some moves too. The ladies were not and will never be impressed by the dude that only pumps his fist in the air and nods his head to the beat. The Beat? Oh god, the music was atrocious. I found better music at Pink that night. It was the worst blend of pop/electronica/house/top 40 I have ever heard. I'll leave this club to the heteros. Glad to know places like this exist. But, I won't be back (lucky for you, Harlot!)
