by Tameka Thibaudeau on It was a nice evening the other night so with our dog in tow walked all the way from Jollyville and Braker to Amy's Ice Cream. Seemed like a great destination.... we tire out the pup and get some ice cream. We get all the way there ready for some Mexican Vanilla with Reese's Peanut Putter Cups when..... "Sorry, we only take cash or check... but we have an ATM..." I'm sorry Amy, but seriously, what year is this? Cash and check only.... what is this, 1988? This is the BIGGEST pet peeve of mine..... I know it costs your business a little extra cash.... but with a business the size of Amy's I know they can afford the fee's. I had no cash.... so I had to use their stupid cash machine. While using it the pimple faced teenager behind the counter told me in a squeaky voice "Oh, sometimes that ATM doesn't work" Thanks Einstein! Would have liked to have known that before putting my card and pin number into this machine! Now some broken machine has my card number AND pin number.... EXCELLENT! If you aren't going to allow credit cards you better have a reliable ATM! My already ridiculously over-priced Ice Cream, nearly 5 dollars, is now costing my 6. I could have bought how many gallons of Blue Bell for 6 dollars? Normally I would have left, but I had already walked like 4 blocks! Just as we are finally getting to enjoy our ice cream (which even after ALL of that still tasted good) three huge car loads of teeny boppers pulls up..... they're giggling, screaming, and running around scaring our poor puppy. Then I remembered that this happens almost every time we come. Be aware that the wannabe cast of High School Musical hangs out at this location. And bring cash... or better yet, go buy some Blue Bell. Amy's ice cream isn't that much better the store bought. The only reason this gets two stars is because the Mexican Vanilla is really good.... but it's not worth all of the above hassle.
by Randolf N. on I give it 4 stars for atmosphere...very cool jellyfish swimming in the black-lit fish tanks and the decor is this sort of Asian dark feel with, of course, little Buddha's everywhere. I thought the food was just OK. We had a whole bunch of different kinds of sashimi specials; I liked the tuna one the best even though I've never been the biggest tuna fan. I recommend a visit as the trip to the scene is sure to impress your out of towners, and for those that live in the city, well it is just a cool place to hang out for a little bite. I got out of there for less than $60 including tip.
