by Kathe Brendon on Went there for a show and my brother was also the opening Dj! As my Mom, my husband and myself were approaching the VIP entry line a woman in a Subaru SUV nearly hit my mom, laid on her horn, and gave us all the shit stare, so my husband's reaction was to give her the middle finger (not unreasonable). About ten minutes later my husband was singled out by security, pulled out of line, and asked to leave because the woman in the SUV was one of the bar managers! My husband explained that he was there with his mother in-law to see his brother in-law and was being protective of her, but they had no sympathy, they still made him leave! Basically what it seemed like was that the bar manager was running late for work and was irritated that people were in her way, mind you it's a very narrow street and it was a sold out show, so there were LOTS of people out front! She was a LARGE rather unattractive white woman, clearly abusing her authority at a silly night club to boost her self esteem! To you, fatty patty with the big red hair: SUCK IT! And just like all the other reviews, the rest of our friends had will call tickets but still waited in line for over an hour and missed most of my brother's set!
by James Breitenstein on I've never left Deep pissed off or disappointed that I went. Since it's on Sundays, the crowd is full of people who genuinely like house music and it's not overcrowded to the point that you can't dance. Marquis Wyatt is a great resident DJ and the guests DJs represent some of the best House music DJs in the world. The cover charge is reasonable though the drinks are a little pricey. The dress code, if you could call it one, is really chill. In fact if you didn't come dressed in comfortable clothing ready to dance and have a good time, you'd probably be the one out of place. Even if you're not much of a dancer, there's ample room away from the dance floor to stand and check out the music and people watch. Sometimes watching cougars dance is worth the price of admission alone, you know the dance where a cougar and her partner hold paws and sort of swing dance but never actually move their feet. Where torso's twist from side to side to the beat that's playing in their E'd out minds, because it sure isn't to the beat of the music playing on the excellent sound system. Speaking of cougars, they are definitely on the prowl, which makes the hunting more like a mauling. Overall I give Deep at the Vanguard 5 stars, great music, cool outdoor patio, just a good place to have a good time.
by peggy w. on I gotta say this place is one of the better places to party at. When there's a party at Roe, I can't resist. BUT, do NOT go downstairs to their basement area. That place is STANK. Good drinks that they servce in actual GLASSES, not plastic cups. Good crowd because it's not too ghetto. Good music. Really can't complain except upstairs has really really bad ventilation so it gets unbelievably HOT. Expect the yuppy SF crowd here.
