by Claudia A. on DON'T GET THE PINK PUTA! It sounded like a great idea at first, ended up being a watered down strawberry smoothie with cheap tequila. It was all sip n gag with that wretched Pink Puta! Glad I didn't try Frida's Brow...or maybe the bartender was a rookie? Second drink was a mango margarita, or what the ladies with sexy little black tube dresses and orange skin would call a "mango-rita" and this joint totally redeemed itself because it was mighty tasty. Best mangorita your humble rateclubser has ever had. I also appreciate that Cantinflas movie they had playing above the bar and the Mexican music made this place truly worthy of being called a cantina! The bartenders were kind of jerks, but I'm willing to give them another chance if they keep making their mango-ritas so fucking good.
by Kevin S. on I'd seen this place on the Food Network.....and the Travel Channel. So I had an idea of "what to expect". Last night, I had my first visit. I don't understand how anyone could NOT like The Varsity? I used the car hop service of course, because I wanted that experience first. Next visit I'll head into the dining room for that one....and I'll be ready with my order and money! I had the #1 combo (2 Chili Dogs and Rings) along with an Apple Pie and a diet coke. The only complaint was....my own stupidity, I forgot to mention the Apple Pie to my car hop, #37, and he ended up making a second trip back to get it. I paid him accordingly with a $3 tip on a $7 tab. Did I mention he was funny too? Man knows his stuff and does a great job talking about the Varsity and Atlanta in general. I'll try some other items on my next visit. Looking forward to it! Just remember, this is a CASH ONLY option when using the car hop. NO CREDIT CARDS out there. Gotta use a card? Go inside. Where they take MC/Visa and Debit.
