by Kristi Druck on very fun! what a novelty.... and very clever decor. i flew down to altanta one cold morning either really hungover- or- still drunk, i really couldn't tell and was incredibly grumpy when i got off the plane not thinking any kind of food could put me in a better mood. i was wrong. i picked the asian bbq burger, mainly because my friends thought it appropriate since i'm asian and found the sauce to be spot on with the flavors i sampled in asia. other tasty burgers- lamb burger and the pulled pork burger. all of the burgers were sizable and it was probably unnecessary to order three sides, but they were all delicious. squash fries and regular fries were very good, and the onion rings, pretty standard. the milkshakes were dreamy. the pistaccio truffle was good, the truffle was very identifiable, so if you're not into that, don't order it. the one with burnt marshmallow on top was great; i could not get enough of it. overall, i left full and happy, but still smelling like booze. p.s. parking was pretty tough to find even with the adjacent lot and extra lot.
by Venice Bugbee on My favorite! Been going to Golden Temple since I was in college in the 90s. Really this isn't like any other chinese food. It's chinese food done right. I recommend the spare ribs with a nice "emerald mist" for two. It's this killer of a drink that will make you wobbly when you get up.
by Elizabeth C. on Huge space that is great for dancing. The sound system is really sweet. Of all the venues I've ever been in Chicago, Philadelphia, and LA, this has the best acoustics hands down! The lighting system was also faboo. I also think that they have a smoking area. When I caught LCD Soundsystem last year or the year before, I know I smoked somewhere upstairs. However, when I caught !!! just this week, i couldn't find the smoking area. Is it still there??? I keep promising myself that I'll quit, but until I do it'd be nice not to have to go aaaaaaaaaaaaaall the way outside just for a cigarette. In sum, I look forward to getting sweaty at one of Avalon's dance parties! However, if at all possible, I will avoid catching a concert at Avalon. After $35 to Ticketmaster, $30 cab ride, and $10 weak drink in a tiny plastic cup, the !!! show may have been the most expensive hour of my life! Don't get me wrong. I loved !!! and LCD Soundsystem, but both times I felt so ripped off that they got off the stage before midnight. I'm told it's not unusual in LA for bands to play for only an hour, but it still felt so wrong. Too bad that I may *have* to catch Of Montreal's in November here... Drats!
