Morimoto was Great (Back in 2002)! I went to Morimoto after it first opened. I was broke college kid back then so our party could only order appetizers, but it was delicious. It was the first time I tasted Gorgonzola cheese, and was impressed that it blended well in the dipping sauce for tempura. This was in the age of where Iron Chef Japan was immensely popular (before the American version even existed) and when nobody could really pull off a Japanese fusion restaurant, until Iron Chef Masaharu Morimoto came along. The decor was impressive, from the mood light equipped benches and the wave flowing ceiling to the terraced sinks and hidden hand dryers. It was the first nice meal I could afford on my own, and I relished that memory. The man himself was working there, and was kind enough to join in pictures with us. He was friendly and nice. I later bought his autographed book, and I still remain a fan of his. Morimoto no longer works at his Philly restaurant on a day-to-day basis, so I'm not sure how much the level of quality has degraded. I just tried the Morimoto in New York for a Restaurant Week lunch and was very underwhelmed.

Came here last night to see Andy Rourke (The Smiths) spin. A much larger space than found at The Drunken Unicorn, same drinks available with the same prices. There's also actually some room on the side to sit down if you get tired. A small stage located at the end of the space, but I don't think they do shows there anymore. They did when it first opened up. It's a little strange to go there and think that Refused played their last "official" show there. I enjoyed a lot of the 80s and Britpop stuff they played, I'll definitely have to go back.

If you go early and have drinks upstairs at Caprice first you can avoid some of the line drama. The underbar itself is broken into two rooms that definitely have a NYC feel. The place is slow to get going... the real crowd doesn't show until after midnight.
