by Wilma Eischens on Wow, what a wonderful place! What a cool, hip, weird, expensive place! When I come in from out of town, what I'm really looking for is a place that will seat me and my friends on the patio instead of letting us wait for an indoor table, then continually pressure us to order food even though we've made it clear we're only there for (ten dollar) drinks. Did you turn off the heaters to punish us for not wanting 25 dollar goat chops? And what I really, really love is when a waitress decides I'm done with my (ten dollar!!!) drink and whisks it away with about three dollars' worth of it left. Also, telling our friends (who we were waiting for) that they could not come in because the place was full was a really classy move. I guess the empty table next to us was full of the ghosts of dead hipsters? I couldn't even get a buzz on because I was only important enough to score two drinks in two and a half hours. Maybe if I'd rolled up my dress sleeves and drawn some super-ironic anime tattoos on my arms with a Bic pen, I would've warranted a little more attention. The decidedly un-magical evening ended when our waitress decided that sitting down for a beer and a chat with her pals would be much more fun than finishing up with my table's insignificant needs. This prompted me to go looking for someone a little less busy discussing silent movie stars or magical realism or who the fuck knows what, someone who might be in the mood to give us our bill. Cut to me and my friends standing on the pavement in front of this place, several dollars poorer and in a collectively foul mood. We all went our separate ways feeling like chumps for paying to be treated like Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman. I got money to spend in here, East Side Show Room!!!!

Then look no further, Vanguard is one of the most poppin' place to hit up. The venue is HUGE with 3 rooms as well as a large outdoor patio for you and your friends to chill. There are plenty of bars all over the venue for you to hit up for drinks. On Friday nights are usually "asian nights" and they usually have pretty good music going on as well. I've come here several times, and each time was a memorable experience. =P
by Marc M. on This place brings me nothing but regret (accompanied by dreamy accoustics). You were Midlake center stage, a balding front man slight of build and rich with hair. This night would have been perfect if a period came next.
