Honestly, I have a very deep love/hate relationship with this place.  as much as i really hate coming here for various reasons, i always find a reason to come back despite my reluctance.  it's not like its that great either - it's just always a friend's birthday here or something ridiculous and i never, EVER, ever leave this place with my memory intact. i guess the only reason it would get a couple of more stars is because hiro is the type of place you could go to as a default option on a friday night, at least for Asians.  For the most part, the place fills up relatively well - they have had a couple of off nights.  upstairs is rarely packed though.  music is always great, or at least danceable. and most importantly - vodka open bar for ladies until 1130. an extra star bc the door guys actually remember who you are and i never have to wait on line so that makes me like the place just a bit more... though the first time that happened, it made me quite sad that i came here often enough for that. okay but really the bad stuff: their house vodka is terrible bc i always get a horrible hangover.. so sometimes the open bar really is not worth it. there are some skeezy guys there on the real. people there SUCK.   i can't really blame hiro for this but i've had a lot of my things swiped there.. once my purse with EVERYTHING on it .. to be subsequently used at a local restaurant with a huge bill... and another time my phone.  i've heard lots of horror stories of thefts there as well, FROM Security. Security, however, is really great.  when you call they really work with you to find your stuff .. but that's for Maritime hotel in general. lastly, there are some super super super b*tchy bartenders on the first floor.  the men bartenders are really great and dont have an attitude problem.  it's really just ONE lady bartender .. who likes to slam glasses on the bar for no apparent reason when ordering your drink.  if you don't like your job, QUIT beyotch. lastly the place is just DIRTY man. fridays is asian/korean night - from what i know, it's mixed.  generally good crowd, has off nights on occasion.  you really can't predict it either cause sometimes it could be pouring out and its packed inside.  sometimes its a nice night out for partying, and its just empty. saturdays is a regular night - from what i heard from Security, it SUCKS. sundays is gay night - from what i heard its GREAT.

Favorite club I've been to in L.A. so far.  The television show my husband works for had their wrap party there so we had the place to ourselves.  I guess it helps that we had open bar and waiters bringing us awesome appetizers but still a great place. The decor was very interesting and pretty which is what I liked the most about it.  There is an outdoor patio area that has a  fire pit you can sit down and relax by. As our party ended they opened the doors to everyone else.  The crowd seemed pretty typical.  No really trashy looking girls and alot of mid-thirty aged guys.  The music was typical hip hop but I like that at clubs. The drinks at the bar were mixed extremely strong.  I don't know how the prices are because we didn't pay for anything with it being the wrap party and all. There is valet parking outside but it cost $15! I thought that was insane and actually the highest I've seen since living in L.A.  There is a parking garage across the street thats ten bucks so we just parked there and walked over.

One Midtown Kitchen is probably my favorite out of Paul Amick's restaurants. I'm a fan of how the menu is organized, and I'm a big fan of how easy it is to share the dishes on the menu. The goat cheese is to-die-for (you'll be tempted to order several if you're sharing - it's baked in this incredible bread triangle and there's a mushroom "sauce" - just try it, seriously!) and the steak frites (parmesan fries...oh my) are so yummy. The pizzas are delicious and the calamari is great. But the main reason I love One is how the atmosphere welcomes groups and the wine and drink list is perfect for parties. The "flight" set up - order by glass/half carafe/carafe/bottomless glass for wine and the selections are all good across all price ranges, and the martini list (check out the chalk board list) is excellent. Full bar, of course, and the bar atmosphere (with full service) is superb. It's a great place for group celebrations or dates, and they are always happy to split checks, even with large groups.
