As a visitor to Atlanta, I've heard from all sorts of locals about The Varsity. How it's an institution. A reminder of the good ol' days. The way fast food was meant to be. And you know what, having now had 3 chili dogs, 1 cheeseburger, 1 order of fries and 1 order of onion rings over the course of 2 days and nights, I can completely understand what Atlantans are getting at! The main location is the way to experience this place, and ordering your food is a treat in itself. Know what you want is all I've got to say, or don't get in line. There are a bunch of different rooms to choose to sit in, calling the place expansive is an understatement, and of course going for the drive-in makes you realize why sometimes progress isn't a good thing (on a side but similar note, why don't people go to movie drive-ins anymore?). Flying in the face of good health and cholesterol woes, The Varsity is simply a must try, and as a Californian, I'll put it right up there with our In 'n' Out. P.S. Make sure to get a Varisty hat to wear while there, suitable for kids of all ages.

I came on a Thursday night for The Root Down, nuthin but hip hop, to see Peanut Butter Wolf. This venue is dope period. It is located in a quiet area on Santa Monica Blvd. The size is relatively small divided into a lounge and stage area with complete bars and seating and drink prices were reasonable. Cover for the show was only $5. The crowd was nice and diverse ranging from average hip hop heads to curious bar hoppers. It was a plus that many of the women were quite attractive that night. Even ran into DJ Rhettmatic of the World Famous Beat Junkies, Percee P, and Cut Chemist. I heard 9th Wonder was in the house, but maybe that was the alcohol...The one thing that was not cool though was the temperature of the place. It gets pretty toasty. But how can you blame them? This place is on fire.

I love this place! More so than the bar upstairs. The atmosphere is just gorgeous! No Stella though. The asian theme suits the place quite nicely. Do not come in here with a polo shirt and shorts, because you just about kill the mood. Saw Lily Allen perform here last year, it just about knocked my first favorite small concert venue in the city, Bowery Ballroom, out of the water. FYI, if you come early to line up for a show, form your line to the left of the entrance (your left, if your facing the venue head on).
