by Alita Neeser on This review is for the Late-Night portion of XIV. I haven't tried the food, but looks like a good place to come back to. I don't know why rateclubs labels XIV as a "dance club." It's too small to be a club. What you have instead is the patio bar/terrace with a DJ. No dance floor. It's just people standing around and rotating around the floor until they have to hit the bar again. Besides dining, I would suggest coming for the bar inside the restaurant. Do note: the bar closes when the restaurant closes. But, they still allow you to hang out at the bar. FYI, drinks are about $10 As far as the scene, a normal girl can't compare with the typical hollywood, bev hills plastic girls (only if that's your cup of tea). Regardless, even though we weren't not plastic out, the bouncers let us in. I guess we met their standards (note my sarcasm) although I have a feeling they can be snotty to some...
by Kyla Crosswhite on Wasabi mashed potatoes, Philly steak egg rolls, diet soda on the rocks, in swing chairs on the second floor overlooking the booths on the first floors please! Roof top bar, one-way bathroom mirrors, hot guys and pretencious women, what more could you ask for? Mmm...Van Gogh Vodka Espresso. Very consistent staff, mouthwatering menu, food is always served hot and quickly. I have been here at least a dozen times and haven't waited for more than twenty minutes for a table.
by Todd P. on Some places don't need shine and glitter to deliver a good experience. And if you've been to Alfredo's, you know that ambiance is not their forte. I don't think this restaurant has been updated once in the past 20 years. But once you sit down and start munching on the tasty food, the tacky acoustic ceiling tiles and old wood paneling fade quickly into the background. I had dinner here with a large group of friends, celebrating a birthday. They were a bit behind on their reservation time, and it was a little ackward since there is no where to wait other than stacking up in the aisle behind the bar which blocks the path for new folks coming in and working their way to the host desk. We were eventually seated and started working on the garlic bread and pickled veggies placed on the table while we reviewed the menu. The bread is delicious, but make sure everyone at your table eats some for equal opportunity garlic breath-a-lizing. I ordered the snapper francese, an egg-battered fillet with butter, lemon and white wine sauce, and a side of penne arrabiatta. The fish was delicious, perfectly cooked, and the sauce was awesome. I wasn't a huge fan of the penne, but it was decent although a bit dry. The service was great. I think these Italian gentlemen must all be the original servers from when the joint first opened decades ago. They know their stuff, are prompt and attentive, and gracious with the birthday boy in our group bringing a platter with a variety of desserts for the table, gratis.
