by Winston G. on Not the best, not the worst. I think Opera is representative of big, super clubs in both NYC, LA, and Vegas. VIP Bottle service will cost you a few hundred per bottle, and regular cover is $20. We got to go for free through our law school, so I didn't have to pay cover, or wait in line. However, I can see how that can be frustrating for many people, especially for guys. Drinks are expensive, of course, and the policy of having no water available on tap is pretty dirty-- but at least $5 dollars got me a bottle of Evian and not a bottle of Deer Park, or whatever water brand they have in the south. Interior is nice. Crowd is decently mixed. Would probably come back here again, but if someone from Opera reads this, PLEASE GET SOME AIR CONDITIONING. Thanks.
by Myles Amrhein on The staff here is great. Apart from everything else, they really made my experience here enjoyable.. well... except for the part where I realized how much I was paying for drinks.. but whatever. I had a great time. And that's what counts most. Seating for shows is great and thanks to the staff, you're almost guaranteed a clear view even when there are people standing around. It's great to be able to enjoy bands up close without having to freak out about the crappy sound. No crappy sound issues here. Just good times, lovely people, cold drinks, and wonderful service. Yay GAMH! Can't wait to come back. Ladies- the bottom floor restroom has just the single toilet, but there are multiple stalls upstairs...just watch your feet- the floor up there changes levels a few times.
by Kyle L. on Tired of top 40 and "ounce-ounce-ounce-ounce" of regular nightclubs? Tired of douchebag doormen and lame-o bartenders who serve tonic with a splash of vodka? Tired of paying $15 cover charges? Me too! Middlesex is great for a night out with friends, or an early evening drink. I think their DJs are psychic 'cuz they always know what I want to hear. Also (and this is my favorite part), I like to hold the 24oz Red Stripe bottle for hours and pretend that I'm as cool as it gets. Yeah, I know... :(
