by Mr B. on Wow. I came here from Princeton, with high expectations. A sushi conveyor, Asian food, and pods? Wow, my expectations were high. I came here with my family, with the same expectations. I ordered pork dumplings with the regular sashimi. Great dumplings, lots of fresh sushi. Great food. I would come back for it any time, but the decor is literally out-of-this-world level awesome. We entered a pod, and I found out immediately that the colors were changeable. Throughout the course of our hour long meal, the color must have changed about...80, maybe 100 times. Techno music pumped through Pod's powerful subwoofers, and Astros Boy animes were showing. The seats were surprisingly comfortable. The bathrooms were weird and cool at the same time, but a little dirty. There was this weird rooms with phones and anime, must have been a phoning room. Service was slow, but friendly. I would so return. $200 + bill, though.
by Kristina R. on I've gotta start off by saying the decor is beautiful!! I love all the black and white photos and vintage couches and chairs! Great place to take lots of pix! I've been here plenty of times since it is walking distance from my apt and I've come to the conclusion that it's better on weekdays or for happy hour. On Friday and Saturday nights it becomes a bit snobby and too crowded (not my thing) BUT if you go for happy hour or on a week day not only are the drinks half off but it's a nice older/smaller crowd and they also tend to play some ol'school soul music vs. a DJ spinning beyonce or Lady Gaga. Their signature drink (The Ella) made with freshly squashed watermelon is delicious but be prepared for a major headache the next morning if you have too many!
by September Venton on I've been saying to myself, "I"m going to make it to The End Up one day, I swear!" And finally, I can say I did! Courtesy of the festivities of Lovefest 2006, I found myself in line at 7 am with what was left of our partying group - four original guys, a new guy, and one other girl. With a $20 cover charge, I found that a bit steep. But then again, they don't really have any competition, so they could charge whatever they want now, can't they? After being asked to empty out my pockets and paying my cover charge, I walk into this dark place and look around. Straight in front is the bar and a cushioned bench runs along the side. Keep on walking left and you pass the restrooms and the space starts to get bigger. You see the small dance floor up ahead and can make out an outdoor patio with the morning light coming down. I am truly amazed at how crowded it starts to get after an hour or two there. And I danced, and sat, and people watched, and sat, and danced, and people watched. And the music is freaking loud on the dance floor. REALLY freaking loud. And just when I thought I could escape it just for a moment by using the ladies' room, I swear it's louder in there. (And the line was always so short for the ladies' room, how fabulous!) Oh wait a second, actually...I still heard the pounding when I left the place at noon. It truly is amazing that there's a place in San Francisco that you can party your ass off way into the morning...with other equally crazed dancers too. And plus, they play MY kind of music, the stuff that I like to dance too...all that much better! Oh sure, I would definitely go back...with ear plugs. I think I'll be able to last a little longer than noon if I had those the first time around. And you know what I love...no dress code! Fabulous! I think a return visit would venture a 4. (I was tired by this point. C'mon, give me a break, I was at Lovefest all day long! I'm not that hardcore...yet! =P)
